Arkalalah, a time of Reflections & Schedule of Events

Arkansas City will soon be the place for "reflection," or Diamond Reflections during the 75th annual Arkalalah festival.

Running Oct. 21 to 28, the festival will include three parades, carnival rides, street celebrations and food, entertainment and the crowning of a queen from Cowley College.

Groups and individuals have been busy building floats for this year's parades, Arkalalah organizers say. Churches, schools and businesses will vie for prizes in a judged competition.

Arkalalah, in its 75th year is Arkansas City's oldest, longest-running festival.

The word Arkalalah is coined from "Ark," short for Ark City, and "alalah," an Indian word meaning "good times."

Festival entertainment starts Oct. 21 with a medallion hunt sponsored by Graves Drug and the Arkalalah Executive committee. The Marshall Tucker Band performs at 7 p.m. Oct. 24, at the Brown Theatre on the campus of Cowley College. The increasingly popular Parade of Lights will be held at 8 p.m. Oct. 25.

Festival goers can also enjoy bands, coronations, carnival rides and attractions while renewing old friendships, attending class reunions and enjoying the crowds.

Second Amendment
Does the Second Amendment guarantee an individual's right to own a gun, as the Supreme Court recently ruled?

Yes, that was the intent of the founding fathers.
No, the founders were only talking about militias.
It's still unclear.
