Kathryn Faye Goentzel

Kathryn Faye Goentzel, 58, of Wichita, formerly of Wellington, Brooke Insurance customer service representative died Monday, Jan. 7, 2008, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. Memorial services for Kathryn will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 10, 2008, in the chapel of Day Funeral Home in Wellington, with the Rev. Jan McDaniel officiating. Following the service, a reception for friends and family will be held at 1 p.m. in her son's home at 1198 S. River Road, Geuda Springs. Friends may call at the funeral home from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today. There will be no viewing as cremation has been effected. Kathryn was born Monday, June 7, 1949, in Wichita, the daughter of Ralph E. and Mary Lou (Posey) Caster. Her parents preceded her in death. On May 7, 1970, Kathryn and Richard Goentzel were married in Derby. Together they celebrated over 37 years of marriage. Survivors include her husband, Richard Goentzel, of Geuda Springs; daughter, Denise Oliver and her husband, Aaron, of West Des Moines, Iowa; son, Curtis Goentzel, of Geuda Springs; grandchildren, Rachel and Noah Oliver, of West Des Moines, Iowa; sisters, Janis Williams and her husband, Steve, of Caldwell, Peggy Ryan and her husband, Larry, of Wichita, Connie Wyckoff and her husband, Gale, of Caldwell, Lorene Chadwell and her husband, Matthew, of Burbank, Okla.; along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial has been established in her loving memory with the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 1653, Topeka, KS 66601. Contributions can be mailed or left with the funeral home. Shirley Jeanette Graham

Shirley Jeanette Graham, 76, of Arkansas City, went to be with the Lord Thursday, Jan. 3, 2008, at her residence, with family and friends at her side. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 7, 2008, at the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home of Arkansas City. Interment followed in the Hope Cemetery. Shirley was born Dec. 8, 1931, in Arkansas City. She was raised by her mother Edith "Pug" Morton and stepfather, Howard Morton Sr., and educated in Arkansas City. Shirley attended IXL Elementary, Arkansas City Junior High and Arkansas City High School, graduating in 1949. She then completed aviation training. She was baptized Presbyterian and active in all church functions. She trained her children "the way they should go." In 1978, she was baptized Pentecostal and her pastor was Lottie Adams. She developed a close relationship with her Savior and was a great prayer warrior. She prayed constantly and often with intercessory prayers. On April 4, 1950, she married Kenneth Graham in Pawhuska, Okla. The couple made their home in Arkansas City, and they were blessed with three children. Shirley furthered her education by attending licensed practical nurse training at Blackwell School of Nursing. The school was owned and taught by the Felician Sisters of the eastern state, Massachusetts and New Jersey, graduating with highest honors in 1967. With her LPN license in hand, she continued to excel in her nursing skills throughout her lifetime. As a young lady, Shirley worked at Arkansas City Memorial Hospital; AC Office Building with doctors Morton, Clayton, Aucar and Hinshaw; Summit Clinic with doctors Alvarez and Green; Winfield Memorial Hospital and Ponca City Hospital. Shirley participated in the ribbon cutting for Valley View South Nursing Homes, currently Medicalodges East and North. She was nursing director for Valley View South. She continued to utilize her nursing skills at the Dexter Care Center. In 1985, she received correctional officer training at the Winfield Correctional Prerelease Center. Shirley worked a brief time as a corrections officer, before the facility discovered her nursing ability. She also worked as a private sitter and traveling nurse for care. She was well known for her extreme intelligence, nursing skills and smiling face. Shirley was one of the greatest nurses who ever lived. She cared for her family, friends, coworkers and patients. She never met a stranger and was not just a nurse to one, but to all. Her hobbies include the following: reading, cooking, singing, dancing, family get-togethers, keeping track of family history and attending family school activities. Shirley is survived by her daughter, Marilyn Pool, and husband, Joe, of Arkansas City; sons, Kenneth "Sonny" Graham, and wife, Peggy, of Anacoco, La., Timothy "Timmy" Graham, and wife, Jennifer, of Newkirk, Okla.; care giver of 10 years and granddaughter, Amy Lorg, of the home; half-brother, Howard L. Morton Jr., of Arkansas City; half-sister, Linda Linck, of Kansas City, Mo.; grandchildren, Stony Graham, Nikki Tharp, Clayton Graham, Brittni Graham and Hunter Graham; great-grandchildren, Justice Anderson and Presli Tharp. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Kenneth, in 1998, and stepson, Terry Graham.

Herbert Lloyd Smith

Funeral services for Herbert Lloyd Smith, who died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2008, were conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 7, 2008, at the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home. The Rev. Steve Chambers, of the Central Christian Church, officiated. Interment was in the Mt. Hope Cemetery in Ashton. The musician was Stephen Butler. Casket bearers were Mike Flinn, Terry Flinn, Mark McGuigan, Steve Flinn, Charles Hopkins and Tim McGuigan. Honorary casket bearers were Don Burkharth and Beau Holland.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home, Arkansas City.


Randy Lee Benton

Funeral services for Randy Lee Benton, who died Friday, Dec. 28, 2007, were conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2008, at the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home, with Brother James "Babe" Standerfer officiating. Interment was in the Parker Cemetery. Special music was by Brad Paisley. Casket bearers were Russ Musson, Marty Johnson, Ron McConnell, Brad Musson, Jim Johnson and John McConnell. Honorary casket bearers were Steven Benton, Loren Hearlson, Tricia Cook, Shawn Benton, Kayla Benton and Brady Benton.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home, Arkansas City.


Gary Eugene Bushyhead

Funeral services for Gary Eugene Bushyhead, who died Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2008, were conducted at 2 p.m Saturday, Jan. 5, 2008, at the St. Paul United Methodist Church in Arkansas City. Pastor Jack Dickson officiated. Honorary casket bearers Reece Moman, Kelly Moman, Jake Oberlechner, Ray Woods, Chris Rains, Larry Langhorst, Kevin Moman, Kyle Bartlett, Jeff Hill, Tony Treadwell, Zach Bible and Mike Kennedy.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home, Arkansas City.


Glen H. Martin Sr.

Funeral services for Glen H. Martin Sr., who died Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2008, were conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4, 2008, at the Bible Christian Church. The Rev. H. Dean LaVelle officiated. Interment was in the Memorial Lawn Cemetery. Military honors were by Spencer Ralston Post No. 1254, Arkansas City, with Commander Clyde Hatcher and Chaplain Jerry E. Fry. Color bearers were David Pond and Jimmy Simpson. Firing squad with Commander Gilbert Mills was Joe E. Harris, Les Block, Darrell Rolland, Lee Bartlett, Gary Johnson and Randy Walker. Bugler was Alyce M. Harris. Special music was by John and Deanne Splechter. Casket bearers were Glen H. Martin III, Phillip N. Martin, Kevin Collins, Kelly Crow, William Glen Collins, Gary Schones and Darin Crow. Honorary casket bearers were KG&E retirees and Glen's church family.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home, Arkansas City.


Jose Eduardo Sigala

Mass of Christian Burial for Jose Eduardo Sigala, who died Monday, Dec. 31, 2007, was conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, 2008, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Father Charles Seiwert officiated. Private interment was in the Memorial Lawn Cemetery, Arkansas City.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home, Arkansas City.


Dale P. Anderson

Dale P. Anderson, 89, Ponca City resident, died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2008, at the Newkirk Nursing Center. Survivors include his daughter, Sharl Taylor, of Newkirk.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the First United Methodist Church of Newkirk Rebuilding Fund. Arrangements are pending and under the direction of the Miller-Stahl Funeral Service, Newkirk.
