Virginia R. Blossom

Virginia R. Blossom, 92, of Topeka, died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2008. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Penwell Gabel Southwest Chapel, Topeka. Interment will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery. The family will greet friends at the funeral home from 6-7:30 p.m. today. Virginia was born Sept. 20, 1915, in El Dorado, the daughter of Eugene and Jessie Marty Stebbins. She and her husband lived in several locations due to her husband's job with the railroad, returning to Topeka in January 1984. Survivors include two grandsons; three great-grandchildren; sisters, Nina Schoenfeld, Nancy Baird, both of Topeka, and Mary Kay Stratton, Auburn, Kan.; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bert Blossom; her stepmother, Meda Stebbins; her daughter, Vicky Sowka; one grandson; sister, Lila Shinn; brother, Eugene Stebbins Jr.

A memorial has been established for the Fairlawn Church of the Nazarene. Contributions may be made through the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of the Penwell Gabel Southwest Chapel, Topeka. On-line condolences may be made at www.PenwellGabel.com.


Chester H. Shorter Jr.

Chester H. Shorter Jr., 60, Winfield, died Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2008, at his home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, 2008, at Bible Christian Church, 2411 N. Eighth St., in Arkansas City. The family will greet friends at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. Friday.

A complete obituary will appear in Friday's edition of the Traveler. Arrangements are under the direction of Miles Funeral Service, Winfield.

Della Weeks, 84, Arkansas City resident, died Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2008, at South Central Kansas Regional Medical Center, Arkansas City.

Arrangements are pending and under the direction of the Miller-Stahl Funeral Service, Newkirk.


David L. Shook

David L. Shook, 47, of Arkansas City, died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2008, at his residence.

Arrangements are pending and under the direction of the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home, of Arkansas City.
