Jerry L. Bryan

Jerry L. Bryan, 74, Burden, died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2008, at the Dexter Care Center. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2008, at Miles Funeral Service. Interment will follow in the Burden Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5-9 p.m. Tuesday. The family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m. Born Jan. 12, 1934, in Arkansas City, he was the son of James Harry and Grace Alice (Englis) Bryan. He worked for Southern Kansas Telephone Company as an installer/repairman until retirement in 1994. Suvivors include his wife Jeannine (Lygrisse) Bryan of the home; son, Philip L. Bryan, Rapid City, S.D.; daughter, Barbara A. Calvin, Winfield; brother, Bruce A. Bryan, Hennessey, Okla.; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother, Kenneth Loyd Bryan.

A memorial has been established for Hospice Care of Kansas, the First Baptist Chruch of Burden (youth church camp scholarships) and for the Grenola Historical Society. Arrangements are under the direction of Miles Funeral Service. Winfield.


George "Bud" Madden

George "Bud" Madden, 84, Arkansas City, died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2008, at Presbyterian Manor. Graveside memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, 2008, in the Parker Cemetery. Cremation has been effected. Friends and relatives are invited to the home of Ross Rommel, 220 N. Fourth, Arkansas City, both before and after the graveside service. Born April 27, 1923, in Arkansas City, he was the son of Michael and Sarah Sonricker Madden. He worked as a chief electrician for Total Refinery for 45 years before retirement in 1998. Survivors include his daughters, Mickie McCann, Sedan, and Penny Johnson, Glendale, Ariz.; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Madden; sisters, Rose Colbert, Margaret Davidson and Grace Bergman; and one grandson.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hawks Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Arkansas City.


Max Elswick

Max Elswick, 81, of Tulsa, Okla., died Sunday, Feb. 3, 2008, at the Saint Francis Medical Center in Tulsa. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. The family will be present.

Arrangements are pending and under the direction of the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home, Arkansas City.

Sarah Lord, Enid, Okla., died Sunday, Feb. 3, 2008.

June E. Gilkison

June E. Gilkison, 82, Winfield, died Saturday evening, Feb. 2, 2008, at her residence. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, 2008, at Miles Funeral Service.
