Sara Ann Lord

Sara Ann Lord, age 72, passed away in Enid, Okla., Feb. 3, 2008. Funeral services will be at the First United Methodist Church in Arkansas City, Kan., on Saturday, Feb. 9, at 11 a.m. Reverend Elaine K. Lord will officiate. Sara was born Dec. 8, 1935, in Arkansas City, Kan., daughter of William K. (Bill) and Bolene Cope Lord, who preceded her in death. She lived in Enid since 2004. Sara attended elementary schools in rural Arkansas City and Uncas, Okla. She was a graduate of Arkansas City High School and attended Arkansas City Junior College. She earned a degree in elementary education from Texas Wesleyan College, Fort Worth, Texas, and a degree in business from Business School, Omaha, Nebraska. After doing secretarial work for Western Union in New York City, she returned to teach at the same school of business. She discovered that teaching elementary grades was her true calling and taught or served as librarian at various times in the elementary schools of Arkansas City, Washington, D.C., Omaha, Neb., Souix Falls, SD, and Fort Worth, Texas. Retiring from teaching, Sara served as secretary for the Central Christian Church in Arkansas City. As an active member in the United Methodist Church, Sara enjoyed singing in the choir, organizing the church library, teaching Bible studies, working with special programs, and served in several offices in the United Methodist Women organization. She liked to play board games with her family and traveled extensively with them. She was creative with ceramics, sewing and cooking. As an avid reader, she had many interests; Bible history was a favorite. In 1982 she married Don Arnett of Arkansas City, who preceded her in death. Her survivors include sisters and brothers: Bonnie Britton Fleece, and her husband Charles, Granbury, TX, Thomas W. Lord and his wife Susan, Wolfforth, TX, David S. Lord and his wife Sally, Lawrence, Kan, Elaine K. Lord, Macksville, Kan., Lois L. Fox and her husband Al, Enid, Okla., Jean L. Gough and her husband John, Topeka, Kan. There are five nieces and eight nephews in Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas and Florida.

Memorials may be given to charities Sara supported: Friendship International Hungarian Christian Mission or Operation Smile International Medical Mission. Virginia "Jinny" R. Clock

Virginia "Jinny" R. Clock, 67, of Winfield, pass away Feb. 6, 2008, at her home. Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday. The family will greet friends from 6- 8 p.m. that evening. Jinny was born Sept. 21, 1940, in Webster Groves, Mo., to Dr. Norman C. and Martha Elaine (Murch) Edwards. She was raised and received her education in Webster Groves where she graduated in 1958. She later attended Washington University in St. Louis, Mo., where she studied commercial art. She was employed with Universal Match Corporation in St. Louis as a commercial artist. Jinny was united in marriage to Robert L. Clock on Sept. 5, 1964 in Webster Groves, Mo.. The couple moved to Lawrence and she was employed as a commercial artist at Centron Movie Studios. In 1967 they moved to Winfield and purchased Snyders Pharmacy in 1971. Jinny and Robert formed Clock Medical Supply and she was CFO and co-owner. She was a dedicated homemaker as well. Jinny was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Winfield. She was also involved in the Agalaen Club, bridge and Gammi Phi Beta. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, shopping and painting with all types of media. Other hobbies included spending decades of time volunteering and supporting the Winfield Swim Club with both her children and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents. .Survivors include her husband, Robert, of the home; a son, Dennis Clock and wife, Audra, Winfield; two daughters, Kristen Fields, Dothan, Ala., and Charcie Clock, Portland, Ore.; two sisters, Constance Robinson, Roswell, Ga., and Sandie Jost, Webster Groves, Mo.; and her grandchildren, Lauren, Marley, Blakely and Mikayley.

A memorial has been established in Jinny's name for the Winfield Swim Club. Contributions may be made through the funeral home. Online condolences may be made at www.milesfuneralservice.com.


Edward Prouty

Edward Prouty, 58, of Arkansas City, passed away Feb. 6, 2008, at his home. Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery in Winfield. Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday. The family will greet visitors from 6 to 7:30 that evening. Prouty was born July 24, 1949, in Winfield to Ralph and Ethel (Brooks) Prouty. He was raised and educated in Winfield and attended and graduated from college. On Aug. 25, 1963, he joined the United States Air Force and served in the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged on Aug. 25, 1972. He then served in the Air Force Reserves for a short time. He was married to Thelma McDonald. She preceded him in death in 2005. Prouty worked in the oil fields and was also part owner of the Whiskey Barrel. Ed was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.Prouty was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma, in 2005. Survivors include his mother, Ethel Prouty, Winfield; a son, Cory Davis, Amsterdam; a step-son, Jim McDonald, a brother, Mark Prouty, Winfield; a brother-in-law, Patrick Burns; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established with Miles Funeral Service to help defray funeral expenses. Contributions may be made through the funeral home. Online condolences may be made at www.milesfuneralservice.com.
