Jill Annette Ratzloff

Jill Annette Ratzloff, 45, Rose Hill, died Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2008, at Via Christi/St. Francis Hospital in Wichita. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 11, 2008, at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment will follow in Parker Cemetery, east of Arkansas City. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2-6 p.m. Sunday. The family will greet friends during that time. Born Jan. 6, 1963, in Winfield, she was the daughter of Donald and Carol Waldschmidt.She worked at Boeing Aircraft in Wichita, and then at Spirit Aero Systems, where she was a manufacturing engineer. Survivors include her husband, Patrick of the home; son, William Looney, Hutchinson; daughters, Bairelle Balancas, Arkansas City, Charnetta Looney, Wichita, Velicia Campbell, Wichita; parents, Donald and Carol Waldschmidt, Dexter; brother, Jayme Waldschmidt, Dexter; sister, Jana Snow, Wyoming; and six grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two aunts; her grandparents, Max Waldschmidt, Ancil and Eula Wood.

In lieu of flowers, the family wishes to have memorials go to Via-Christi Foundation/Heart Transplant Program. Contributions may be made through the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Miles Funeral Service, Winfield.


Carol V. (Elder) Compton

Carol V. (Elder) Compton, 92, Winfield, died Thursday, Feb. 7, 2008, at William Newton Hospital. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, 2008, at the First Presbyterian Church. Interment will be in the Highland Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home until 8 p.m. today. The family will greet friends from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Born June 20, 1915, in Douglass, Kan., she was the daughter of W. Elmer and M. Vina (Washburn) Elder. She taught in rural Butler County schools, Belle Plaine Elementary, taught music in rural Cowley County schools and USD 465 from 1957 until retirement in 1981. Survivors include her daughter, Cynthia Compton, Wichita Falls, Texas; a sister-in-law; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel (Ted) Compton.

A memorial has been established for the First Presbyterian Church of Winfield or the Cowley County Humane Society. Contributions may be made through the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of the Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home, Winfield.


Harold "Bob" Wesley Darnell Jr.

Harold "Bob" Wesley Darnell Jr., 68, Winfield, died Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2008, at the Via Christi-St. Francis Campus Hospital in Wichita. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, 2008, at Swisher-Taylor & Morris Chapel. Inurnment will be held at a later date. Born June 8, 1939, he was the son of Harold W. and Lela V. (Wilson) Darnell. He had worked at Kline Motors for several years and at the Kentucky Fried Chicken Restaurant. Survivors include his brothers, Eldon D. Darnell and Sam Darnell, both of Winfield, and Charles Darnell, Harper; sisters, Roberta Ann Bonnell, Winfield, Barbara Shrubshall, Winfield; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Tiny Wood and Betty Douglass.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home, Winfield.


Lucille V. Vitacolonna

Lucille V. Vitacolonna, 80, longtime Newkirk resident, died Wednesday evening, Feb. 6, 2008, at the Ponca City Medical Center. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Richardo and Vicki Vitacolonna of Newkirk.

Arrangements are pending and under the direction of the Miller-Stahl Funeral Service, Newkirk.


Helen Breeden

Helen Breeden, 93, Topeka, formerly of Arkansas City, died Thursday, Feb. 7, 2008, in Alma, Kan. A full obituary should appear in the Traveler on Monday.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home, Arkansas City.
