Erland C. Bill Peterson

Erland C. "Bill" Peterson, 86, of Arkansas City, died Thursday, Feb. 14, 2008, at the Kansas Veterans Home of Winfield. Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 18, 2008, at the First Presbyterian Church Chapel. Burial will follow in the Parker Cemetery. The family will greet friends at the funeral home from 1-3 p.m. Sunday. Bill was born April 15, 1921, in Garfield, Kan., to Charles and Lydia (Johnson) Peterson. He was reared and educated in Garfield, graduating in 1939. He served in the United States Army during World War II. He served in Europe and North Africa with the 5th Army. Bill married Beckie Kenney on March 7, 1943, in Brownwood, Texas, just before shipping out. The couple moved to Arkansas City in 1951. He worked as a farmer but also enjoyed a lengthy career as a service tech for the Gas Service Company. He was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church, Crescent Masonic Lodge #133 AF&AM and the Spencer-Ralston Post 1254 VFW. Survivors include two sons, Bob, and his wife, Tammie, of Dallas, and Kirk, and his wife, Patricia, of Wichita; one daughter, Jill, and her husband, Jon Baskett, of Dallas; five grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Beckie in 2007, two brothers Wendell and Pete Peterson, and four sisters Ruth Drake, Lillian Stenaas, Mabel Boyd and Irene Beck.

A memorial has been established with the First Presbyterian Church. Contributions may be made at the funeral home. Arrangements are being made through the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home of Arkansas City. Online condolences may be made at: www.rindt-erdman.com.


Derek Bruce Burroughs

Derek Bruce Burroughs, 20, of Arkansas City died, Thursday, Feb. 14, 2008, at the South Central Kansas Regional Medical Center in Arkansas City. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2008, at the Brown Center at Cowley College. A full obituary will follow.

The Derek B. Burroughs Scholarship Fund has been established with Cowley College. Contributions may be made through the funeral home. Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home of Arkansas City is in charge of the arrangements. On-line condolences may be made at: www.rindt-erdman.com.
