Cleo A. Kizer

Cleo A. Kizer, 88, of rural Newkirk, died Saturday, Feb. 16, 2008, at her home. Graveside services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, 2008) in the Parker Cemetery. The Rev. Don Stanton will officiate. Cleo was born Nov. 15, 1919, in Bixby, Okla., to Cleave and Effie (Baldridge) George. She attended country schools around Bixby and Jenks, Okla. She was married to Glenn M. Kizer from 1936 to 1976. Cleo has been married to Willard F. Kizer since 1987. She has been a longtime resident of Newkirk. She worked as a manager for Braum's Ice Cream and Dairy Store for 10 years. Cleo was a member of the Faith Tabernacle of Ponca City. Survivors include her husband, Willard of the home; two daughters, Glennora and her husband, Richard Reed, and Jackie Dodson, all of Newkirk; stepchildren, Nila and Larry Speakman, of Ponca City, Harlan and Ruby Kizer, of Rockaway Beach, Mo., Bob and LaRie Kizer, of Tulsa; a sister, Clara McMorris, of Tahlequah, Okla.; half sister, Peggy Groover, of St. Louis, Mo.; two grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and several stepgrandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Glenn, and a brother, Claude George.

Willie Floyd "Wild Bill" Graham

Willie Floyd "Wild Bill" Graham, 95, of Arkansas City, died Friday, Feb. 15, 2007, at Medicalodge East Health Care Center in Arkansas City, with his family at his side. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2008, at the Hawks Funeral Home in Arkansas City, with the Rev. Jess Fisher officiating. Interment will be in the Riverview Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home until 8 p.m. today. The family will greet friends from 4-6 p.m. Bill was born April 8, 1912, in Hardy, Okla., the son of Oliver Sharp and Martishie Elizabeth Jerome Graham. On Nov. 29, 1942, he married with Lela Esther Glover in Sedan. They lived in Dayton, Ohio, for a short time before coming to Arkansas City. She died Nov. 4, 1946. During his life he worked at many jobs, but was proudest of his work with Gayle Fussell, Jack Givens and the Morgan Brothers. He worked carpentry and cement work at Benson Lumber. Most of all he cherished the time he spent as a derrick hand in the oil field. Survivors include his brother, Charley Graham, of Bend, Ore.; daughter, Marylee Alice Reed, of Clarion, Pa.; son, Billy (Floyd Dale) Graham and his wife, Delores, of Oxnard, Calif.; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and nieces and nephews; extended family that includes Linda Walls and Judy Bowers, who he raised as his children; and Edith Lister who took care of Bill for many years as only a daughter can care for a father. He was preceded in death by his wives, Lela Glover, Mary Protzman and Mable Graham; his parents; daughter, Judy Erwin; sisters, Mary Fisher, Lela Grunden and Della Morgan; brothers, Albert Graham and Virgil Graham.

Ruth Marie Sanders

Ruth Marie Sanders, 77, Ponca City resident and former Arkansas City resident, passed away Sunday, Feb. 17, 2008, in Ponca City.

Arrangements are pending and under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory, Ponca City.


Richard L. Emerson

Richard L. Emerson, 80, died Monday, Feb. 18, 2008, at the William Newton Hospital. Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 22, 2008, at the First United Methodist Church in Winfield. Inurnment will be at a later date in the Kansas Veterans Cemetery in Winfield. Born Sept. 26, 1927, in Topeka, he was the son of Dr. Ralph W. and Mabel (Jones) Emerson. He was employed at the H. L. Snyder Memorial Research Foundation as a clinical chemist and later executive secretary and supervisor of research. Survivors include his wife, Marilee of the home; sister, Beverly Locke, of Rapid City, S.D.; son, Randall Emerson, of Winfield; daughters, Shawn Emerson and Lynn Biddle, of Winfield, and Linda Hiebert, of Wichita; 12 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother, Ralph Waldo Emerson.

A memorial has been established with the First United Methodist Chruch Helping Hands Fund and "the Honor Flight," an organization that flies World War II Veterans to Washington, D.C., to be honored. Contributions may be made through the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of the Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home, Winfield.


Wheeler E. Martin

Wheeler E. Martin, 78, Mulvane, died early Monday morning, Feb. 18, 2008, at Galichia Heart Hospital in Wichita. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, 2008, at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment will follow in Belle Plaine Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 3-9 p.m. Wednesday. Born Oct. 18, 1929, in rural Belle Plaine, he was the son of Frank and Mabel (Sewell) Martin. He worked for the United States Post Office in Wichita until retirement in 1992. Survivors include his sons, Dwayne A. Martin, Mulvane, and Greg E. Martin, Belle Plaine; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Betty Lorraine (Willis) Martin; and a half brother, Harold Martin.

Memorials have been established for Villa Maria Nursing Home in Mulvane and Hospice Care of Kansas. Contributions may be made through the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Miles Funeral Service, Winfield. On-line condolences may be made at www.milesfuneralservice.com.
