Raymond Leo Blubaugh
Raymond Leo Blubaugh, 94, died Friday, February 8, 2008 in Rifle, Colo.
A celebration of his life will be held in early summer, in Rifle, Colo. Ray will be buried next to his beloved wife, Eva, in Rose Hill Cemetery in Rifle.
He was born Sept. 27, 1913, in Wichita to Linus and Christine (Koetting) Blubaugh. At age 16, he "rode the rails" to Colorado and worked on a ranch breaking horses. He continued his education in Wichita and on June 20, 1936, married Eva Hill of Moline, Kan. They had seven daughters and were married 71 years.
A butcher by trade, and a skilled carpenter and avid gardener, he and Eva created comfortable, welcoming homes in Kansas, California, and Colorado. He was artistic and a talented poet. A kid at heart, he enjoyed people of all ages, nature, and the great outdoors. He believed in the Bible and years ago accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.
Ray is survived by daughters, Barbara (Dick) DeMars, Fergus Falls, Minn., Kathryn (Jim) Garvey, Lodi, Calif., Carolyn (Dennis) Gibson, Salt Lake City, Utah, Joyce (Ed) Pace, Rifle, Colo., Louise (Paul) Bright, Fair Oaks, Calif., and Theresa French, Hill City, S.D.; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; brother, Felix (Phyllis) Blubaugh, Fircrest, Wash.; brother-in-law, Bob Myers, Chagrin Falls, Ohio; nephew, Verliand (Susan) Ellis, Arkansas City; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other family.
Ray was preceded in death by his wife in 2007; infant daughter, Mary Marlene; grandson, Joseph DeMars; great-grandson, Jacob Lopes; brothers, Eugene and Vincent; sisters, Hilda Hemmen, Gertrude Berkebile, Bernetta Smarsh, and Teresa Myers.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Farnumholt Funeral Home, Glenwood Springs, Colo.

Robert "Bob" Edwin Justice
Robert "Bob" Edwin Justice, 81, Arkansas City, died Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2008, at the Veterans Administration Transitional Living Care Facility.
Memorial Services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 25, 2008, at the Central Christian Church located at 206 W. Central Avenue in Arkansas City. The Rev. Steve Chambers will officiate.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home of Arkansas City.
Edna Mae Hartman
Funeral services for Edna Mae Hartman, 90, Arkansas City, who died Sunday, Feb. 10, 2008, were conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 14, 2008, at the Central Christian Church. The Rev. Steve Chambers officiated. Interment was in the Riverview Cemetery, Arkansas City.
Pianist was Steve Butler. Vocalist was Marcia Stultz.
Casket bearers were David Sweely, Blaine Hartman, John Cook, Stan Cochran, Howie Hartman, Kevin Hartman, Wes Cook, Kirk Branscum.
Honorary casket bearers were Melissa Cochran, Shawn Hartman, Jayla Sweely, Jacquie Branscum, Traci Holzem, Becky Hartman, Sissy Hartman.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home, Arkansas City.
R. Paul Blair
Funeral services for R. Paul Blair, 80, Arkansas City, who died Monday, Feb. 11, 2008, were conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, 2008, at the First Southern Baptist Church. The Rev. David Smith, Germantown Baptist Church, Germantown, Tenn., officiated. Interment was in the Parker Cemetery.
Masonic rites were given by Crescent Lodge No. 133 AF&AM, Arkansas City.
Pianist was the Rev. Ron Norton. Vocalist was Richard Baird.
Casket bearers were Howard Scheurich, Oscar Partin, Jason Blair, Charles Hopkins, Dean Gilstrap, Bill Morgan and Dr. Ben Bowman.

Erland C. "Bill" Peterson
Funeral services for Erland C. "Bill" Peterson, 86, Arkansas City, who died Thursday, Feb. 14, 2008, were conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 18, 2008, at the First Presbyterian Church Chapel. The Rev. Danny Daniel and the Rev. Joyce Daniel officiated. Interment was in the Parker Cemetery.
Organist was Martha Brandenburg. Vocalist was Marcia Stultz.
Casket bearers were Jim Pringle, Monet Drake, Scott Gore, Kim Stephen, Thon Basom, Jack Gore and Rick Barnthouse.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home, Arkansas City.
Derek Bruce Burroughs
Funeral services for Derek Bruce Burroughs, 20, Arkansas City, who died Thursday, Feb. 14, 2008, were conducted at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2008, at the Brown Center at Cowley College. The Rev. Stephen Bailey officiated. Interment was in the Parker Cemetery.
The eulogy was given by David Maslen.
Special music was by Stephen Butler and Page Butler and the Cowley Choir.
Casket bearers were Brent Hodge, Brice Cole, Mike Dabbs, Tyler Fleming, Matt Peck and Bryson Ramsey.
Honorary casket bearers were the Cowley baseball players.

Lillian I. Urbanek
Lillian I. Urbanek, 89, Good Samaritan Village in Winfield, died there Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2008.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 25, 2008, at the Holy Name Catholic Church. Interment will be at 4 p.m. Monday in Ellsworth City Cemetery, Ellsworth, Kan.
The Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, at the church.
Born Nov. 15, 1918, in Ellsworth, she was the daughter of Earl and Hattie (Dearsmith) Deming. She was co-owner of the Grubb Funeral Home in Ellsworth.
Survivors include daughters, Sandy McAtee, Winifeld, Rita Naegele, Troy, Ohio; brother, Melvin Deming, Houston, Texas; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dan Urbanek, and three brothers.
Memorials have been established for Holy Name Catholic School or the Good Samaritan Village, Winfield.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home, Winfield.
Samuel D. "Fuzzy" Johnson
Samuel D. "Fuzzy" Johnson, 95, Arkansas City, died Thursday, Feb. 21, 2008, at SCKRMC.

Juanita Evelyn Wahlenmaier
Funeral services for Juanita Evelyn Wahlenmaier, 92, who died Friday, Feb. 8, 2008, were conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 14, 2008, at the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home. Pastor Robert L. Ferris, First Christian Church of Newkirk, officiated. Interment was in the Parker Cemetery.
Casket bearers were Chris Wahlenmaier, Steve Wahlenmaier, Rodney Ziegler, David Wahlenmaier, Chris Wahlenmaier Jr., Dennis Hockenbury.

Gail Ross
Gail Ross, 99, Arkansas City died Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2008, at the Presbyterian Manor Health Care Unit in Arkansas City.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, 2008, at the First Presbyterian Church in Arkansas City. The Rev. Danny Daniel and the Rev. Joyce Daniel will officiate. Interment will follow in Parker Cemetery.
Gail was born July 2, 1908, In Riverside, Iowa, to Edward Sanford Fesler and Emily (Sojka Rada) Fesler. The family moved to Arkansas City in 1910. Gail attended Arkansas City schools, graduating from the high school in 1926. She continued her education at Arkansas City Junior College, graduating in 1928. She then attended pharmacy school and became a registered pharmacist on July 17, 1929.
Gail worked as a pharmacist from 1929 until the day before her son, Steve, was born in 1941. She then maintained her license for 25 years, while raising her children and then went back to work at Graves Drug store from 1966 until she retired in 1978.
Gail married Kenneth Ross on Sept. 27, 1936, in Arkansas City, where the couple made their home together until Kenneth's death. In addition to being a full-time mother, Gail ran Kenneth's insurance agency during the World War II years when he was in the Army.
Gail was an active member of the Presbyterian Church where she taught adult Sunday school for many years and served as deacon and elder and actively participated in Presbyterian Women's group. She was a member of PEO chapter GH and was a 75 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She also served on the Arkansas City school board and planning commission.
Gail was a great sports fan and an avid golfer. She and her friends and family spent many wonderful hours playing golf at the Ark City Country Club.
Survivors include two sons, Stephen Ross and wife, Melinda, of Arkansas City, Dr. David Ross and wife, Rhonda, of Topeka; daughter, Janet English and husband, Stephen, of Arkansas City; 10 grandchildren, Mary Singleton and husband, John, John Ross and wife, Rachel, Julia Ross, Sarah Carlson and husband, Brandon, Stephen A. English Jr., Chris English and wife, Tracey, Katie Smith and husband, Trey, Allison Confer and husband, Chris, Laura Hodson and husband, Kadon, and Mitchell Ross; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Kenneth; brother, Walter Fesler; and sister, Erna Kirkland.
A memorial has been established with the First Presbyterian Church of Arkansas City. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
