Robert L. Furnas
Robert L. Furnas, 63, of Talihina, Okla., formerly of Oxford, died Thursday, Feb. 21, 2008, at the Talihina Veterans Health Center in Talihina, Okla.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2008, in the Oxford Cemetery in Oxford, with the Rev. Norman Reeves officiating.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 9-11 a.m. Tuesday.
Born Jan. 5, 1945, he was the son of Howard and Vonna Barclay Furnas in Winfield. He worked for many years for Oil Field Supply.
Survivors include his son, Toby Furnas, of Arkansas City; daughters, Kandy Potter, of Arkansas City, Karly Furnas and Taylr Furnas, of Bowling Green, Ky.; brother, Charlie Furnas, of Ponca City; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial has been established with the Oxford High School. Contributions may be made through the funreral home.

Lorene L. Boggs
Lorene L. Boggs, died Monday Feb. 18, 2008, in Tulsa, Okla.
Born July, 27, 1920, in El Dorado, she was the daughter of Wallace P. and L. Ferne Boggs. She graduated from Arkansas City High School. For many years her residence was in California, and in 2004 she relocated to Tulsa.
Survivors include three sisters, Marilea M. Hoffmann, Oklahoma City, Bonnie L. and Jack Givens, Arkansas City, and Phoebe F. Shore, Tulsa; sister-in-law, Betty Jo Boggs-Blakley, Columbia, Mo.; numerous nieces and nephews and several cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Warren G. Boggs, Kenneth B. Boggs; a niece, Deena Rae Boggs; and nephews, Jaime J. Givens and Michael F. Hoffmann.
Arrangements are under the direction of Moore's Southlawn Chapel, Tulsa, Okla.
Gertrude Goulden "Tillie" Nagel
Gertrude Goulden "Tillie" Nagel, 92, of Arkansas City, died Thursday, Feb, 21, 2008, at the South Central Kansas Regional Medical Center in Arkansas City.
Cremation has been effected. A private family service will be held at a later date.
Tillie was born to Joseph Edward Goulden and Inez Weakley Goulden Barnes on Jan. 8, 1916, in a log cabin in Stoverville, Ark. In 1933, she graduated from Arkansas City High School. After graduating high school, she went to work for Newman's Department Store. In 1933, she moved to New Orleans to work at the Shell Refinery. She married Henry Charles Nagel in 1941 in New Orleans. While married she traveled with her husband while he served in the Air Force. The couple lived in Arkansas City and Texas, for a while, then moved back to New Orleans, where they divorced.
Tillie went to work for the CIA as a stenographer for over 30 years. In 1974, she retired and moved back home to take care of her mother for several years. Tillie spent the last few months of her life at Medicalodge East in Arkansas City.
Survivors include her sister, Geraldine Jeanne Goulden Crouse Carder, of Arkansas City; sister-in-laws, Betty Goulden, of Sarah, Miss., Violet Goulden, of Carthage, Mo.; niece and caregiver of several years, Sherrylyn Hutchens and husband, Stephen, of Arkansas City; nieces, Sandy Goulden, of Oklahoma, Nancy Perry and husband, Jerry, of Carthage, Mo., Sue Stevens of Birmingham, Ala., Dixie Wade and husband, Joe, of Lahoma, Okla.; nephews, Larry Goulden and wife, Mary, of Arkansas City, Michael Goulden, of Wichita, Dennis Goulden, of Arkansas City, Robert Goulden, of Ponca City, Richard Goulden, of Red Rock, Okla., Ronnie Goulden and wife, Tammra of Memphis, Tenn., Dr. Kabin Carder and wife, Sabina, of Columbus, Ohio, Dennis Knoulton and wife, Cheryl, of Ponca City, Johnny Goulden and wife, Sandy, of Saginaw, Mo., Perry Goulden and wife, Patty, Steven Goulden and wife, Annie, all of Missouri.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Lillian Thomas, Laura Goulden, Leta Goulden and Ruth Knoulton; brothers, Leonard Goulden, Joseph Goulden, Norman Goulden and Bill William Goulden; niece, Sharon Austin; nephews, Greg Knoulton, B.J. Thomas and Mike Goulden.

Mel Shanks
Mel Shanks, 59, died Saturday, Feb. 16, 2008, at St. Augustine, Fla.
Memorial services were held Saturday, Feb. 23, 2008, in Dallas, Texas.
Born Sept. 20, 1948, in Arkansas City, he was the son of Bill Shanks and Patricia Jean (Barnes) Shanks Wesbrook. He was an associate professor of art at Flager College in St. Augustine, Fla.
Survivors include two daughters, Erin, of Dallas, Texas, and Lindsey, of Baton Rouge, La.; his twin sister, Ladelle McDown, Prague, Okla.; brother, Lee Shanks, of Arkansas City.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, his parents and grandparents.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Tri-County Crematory, Longwood, Fla.
Mary A. (Tate-Harader) Orlet
Mary A. (Tate-Harader) Orlet, 53 of Arkansas City, died Friday, Feb. 22, 2008, at her residence.
Memorial services have been scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2008, at the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home. Cremation has been effected.
Mary was born June 20, 1954, in Ponca City, to Eugene L. and Laverne (Coleman) Tate. She was reared and educated in Newkirk, Okla., graduating from Newkirk High School in 1972.
Mary married Bob Harader in May of 1975. They had two sons, Robbie and James.
On Oct. 5, 2002, she married Edward Orlet. The couple made their home in Arkansas City. Mary worked as a customer service manager for G.E. Engine Services at Strother Field for 28 years.
Survivors include her husband, Edward, of the home; two sons, Robert W. Harader and his wife, Amy, of Newkirk, James B. Harader, of Arkansas City; five sisters, Carolyn Lynch and her husband, Sami, of Wichita, Nancy Brasfield and her, husband, Billy, of Wichita Falls, Texas, Diane House and her husband, Gary, of Iowa Park, Texas, Sharon Wiechman and her husband, Scott, of Arkansas City, Karen Bilyeu and her husband, Steve, of Arkansas City; six brothers, Ron Tate and his wife, Cindy, of Waukesha, Wis.; Don Tate, of Newkirk, Dennis Tate, of Newkirk, Bart Tate and his wife, Linda, of Newkirk, Terry Tate and his wife, Rebecca, of El Dorado, Jimmy Tate, of Davis, Okla.; stepdaughter, Michelle Gamma and her husband, Gerard, of Sugar Hill, Ga.; grandson, Brandon Joseph Gamma; numerous nieces and nephews; and her beloved four legged friend, Splinter.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents and her grandparents.
