Rick Dorrell

Rick Dorrell, age 52, died at his home in Shell Knob, Mo., on Feb. 26, 2008. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 29, 2008, at the Fohn Funeral Home, Shell Knob, Mo. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until service time, Friday. Born July 3, 1955, in Wichita, he was the son of Bill F. and Shirley A. Dorrell. He grew up and graduated high school in 1973 in Arkansas City, then attended Emporia State and Cowley County Community College. While in Arkansas City, he and his mother owned and operated Ark Valley Marine. Rick had also been a professional radio announcer in Wichita, as well as a disc jockey. In his younger years, he was an avid boater, boat racer and water skier. He was a member of the Kansas Boat Racing Association and American Power Boat Association with a record of "First in State" for two years and for three years held the title of National High Point Champion in his class. Rick enjoyed fishing and volunteered yearly to help the Shriners with their bass tournaments. He was employed with Sport Boats, USA in Shell Knob for the last 11 years. Survivors include his wife, Dina, and son, William; his oldest son, Jason, of Ponca City; his daughter, Tessa, of Blackwell; two grandchildren, Kylie and Trevor, of Ponca City; brother, Steve; niece, Marina; mother, Shirley, of Arkansas City; several aunts, uncles, cousins and a host of wonderful, supportive and caring friends in the Shell Knob and Arkansas City areas. He was preceded in death by his father, Bill Dorrell in 1973; his grandparents, Lester and Nell Dorrell and Garland and Grace Routon; and one aunt.

Joanne Bennefield

Joanne Bennefield, 67, Wellington, died Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2008, at the Golden Living Center in Wellington. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 29, 2008, at the Hawks Funeral Home in Wellington, with the Pastor Scott Schaefer officiating. There will be no visitation as cremation has been effected. Born Feb. 15, 1941, in Tulsa, she was the daughter of Charles G. and Elva Johnson Reynolds. She was a homemaker. Survivors include her son, Russ Sliter, of Wichita; daughter; Veronica Crosser, of Winfield; brothers, Lloyd Van Brunt and Stephen Reynolds, of Pennsylvania; sisters, Betsy Dodge, of Tulsa, Charlene Reynolds, of Los Angeles, Calif., and Merrylyn Reynolds, of Los Angeles; and eight grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Memorials have been established with Hospice Care of Kansas and the Golden Living Center in Wellington. Contributions may be made through the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of the Hawks Funeral Home, Wellington. Online condolences may be made at www.hawksfuneralhome.com.


Sally J. Walker

Sally J. Walker, 77, Arkansas City, died Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2008, at South Central Kansas Regional Medical Center.

Arrangements are pending and under the direction of the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home, Arkansas City.
