Sally Jo Walker

Sally Jo Walker, 77, of Arkansas City, died Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2008, at the South Central Kansas Regional Medical Center. Funeral services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday, March 1, 2008, at the St. Paul United Methodist Church in Arkansas City. Cremation has been effected. Sally was born Feb. 15, 1931, in Oilton, Okla., to Nathan T. Elliott and Althea L. (Hamon). She was raised by her mother, Althea, and Howard Brown. Sally graduated from Arkansas City High School in 1949, attended St. John's School of Nursing and graduated from Marymount College in Salina with her bachelor's degree in nursing. On May 26, 1951, she married Kenneth J. Miller and the couple had four children. She later married her high school friend, David Walker, on Aug. 5, 2005. Sally worked at the emergency room at the St. John's Hospital in Salina, was nursing instructor at Marymount College in Salina, office nurse for Dr. Dowell, Weber and Jackson in Salina, worked at Presbyterian Manor in Salina and Cumbernauld Village in Winfield. She became a Red Cross volunteer after the Oklahoma City bombing as a disaster relief nurse working at Hutchinson following the gas explosions and at the Pentagon following 9/1/1. Sally also worked numerous blood drives for the local Red Cross. She was an active member of the St. Paul United Methodist Church in Arkansas City. Sally loved bowling and playing bridge. Survivors include her husband, David Walker of the home; son, Mike Miller and wife, Carrie, of Hutchinson; daughter, Brenda Moorman, of Arkansas City; son, Kelly Miller and wife, Raylene, of Wichita; daughter, Claudia Nelson and husband, Larry, of New Cambia; stepchildren, David Formals and wife, Marilyn, of Morton, Okla.; Janet Berg, of Oilton, Okla., Patricia Doughty and husband, John, of Ponca City, Okla.; brother, Ronnie Fisher and wife, Nancy, of Claremore, Okla.; nine grandchildren; 12 stepgrandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; five stepgreat-grandchildren; and a niece and a nephew. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Memorials have been established with the American Red Cross or the St. Paul United Methodist Church. Contributions may be made through the funeral home. Robert Gene Pulver

Robert Gene Pulver, 76, Arkansas City, died Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2008, at South Central Kansas Regional Medical Center in Arkansas City. Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 3, 2008, at the Hawks Funeral Home in Arkansas City, with Pastor Andy Wheeler officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 1-8 p.m. Sunday. The family will friends from 4-6 p.m. Robert was born Oct. 9, 1931, in Douglass, the son of Herbert Wesley and Mary Ostrander Pulver. Robert owned and operated "Bobs Shoe Repair" in Henrietta, Okla., for a number of years. Survivors include his wife, Nancy (Lawrence) Pulver of the home; sons, John Pulver, of Cripple Creek, Colo., and Perry Pulver, of Arkansas City; daughters, Connie Adamek, of Bently, Kan., Cynthia Maxwell, of Notus, Idaho, Ruth Raub, of Arkansas City, and Judy Hefley, of Winfield; sister, Jean Byers, of Arkansas City; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Vernon Pulver.

A memorial has been established with the Presbyterian Manor Christmas Fund. Contributions can be made through the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of the Hawks Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Arkansas City. Online condolences may be made at www.hawksfuneralhome.com.
