Mildred A. Grissom

Mildred A. Grissom, 87, of Arkansas City, died Monday, March 3, 2008, at the Dexter Care Center. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 7, 2008, at the Bible Christian Church in Arkansas City. Interment will be held at 2 p.m. at the White Chapel Gardens in Wichita. Mildred was born Jan. 10, 1921, to Clarence A. Pratt and Nettie L. (Metzger) Pratt in Rose Hill, Kan. She lived with her aunts and uncles in Colorado as a youngster, moving back to Wichita to attend Wichita East High School. On Nov. 28, 1940, she married Joe E. Grissom in Wichita where the couple made their home. Joe preceded her in death in 1985, and Mildred moved to Arkansas City in 1986. She was an active member of the Bible Christian Church and a Brownie leader. Mildred is survived by her daughters, Jo Ann Baker, and husband, Ben, of Arkansas City, and Sandra K. Ramirez, and husband, Jorge, of Lake Mary, Fla.; four grandchildren, Mark A. Finley, of Salina, Daniel J. Downing, of Hays-ville, Theresa M. Downing, of Minn-eapolis, Minn., and Andrew M. Downing, of Altamont Springs, Fla; two great-grandchildren, Erin Downing and Jacob Downing. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; sister, Hazel Lee; and two brothers, Orville Pratt and Lawrence Pratt.

Linda Lester

Linda Lester, 60, died March 2, 2008, in Luckey, Ohio. Private family services for Linda will be held at a later date. Born April 28, 1947, in Lamesa, Texas, she was the daughter of Fred and Fay Lester. She was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Arkansas City. Survivors include her father, Fred Lester, of Waco, Texas; her loving daughters, Aleisha Barber, and husband Larry, of Ark City, Tina Adam, and husband Randy, of Lamesa, Texas; one loving son, Leonard Goolsby, of Lamesa, Texas; one granddaughter, Miranda Brown, and husband BJ, of Ark City; two grandsons, Joshua and Jacob Adam, of Lamesa, Texas; one great-grandson, Ashton Brown, of Ark City; one brother, Billy Lester, of Lamesa, Texas; and sister Velma Thurmond, of Waco, Texas; her loyal four-legged friend, Paris; and numerous nieces, nephews and other family members. She was preceded in death by her mother, Fay Lester, and brother, Fred Lester Jr.
