Mildred H. Miles

Mildred H. Miles, 89, of Arkansas City, died Friday (March 7, 2008) at her residence. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Wednesday (March 12, 2008) at the Redeemer Lutheran Church. Burial will follow in the Riverview Cemetery. Pastor Mark Boxman will officiate. Mildred was born July 21, 1918 in Cushing, Oklahoma to Roy and Maude (Rhodelander) Haines. She was reared and educated in Oklahoma and Arkansas City, graduating from Arkansas City High School in 1936. She married Josiah Vann in 1937. She later married Robert Miles in 1951. The couple made their home in Arkansas City. Mildred worked as a waitress for the Purity Cafe, the Osage Hotel and at the VFW before retiring in 1975. She was a longtime member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church and a member of the Spencer-Ralston Post 1254 VFW Auxiliary for 37 years Survivors include two daughters Beverly Pool and Cynthia and her husband Richard Sparks all of Arkansas City; a son Richard Vann of Waggoner, Oklahoma; eleven grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; and twenty-five great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Robert, a sister Lucille Bruner and a great-granddaughter Brandi Ray Le Pool.

A memorial has been established the Hospice Care of Kansas. Contributions may be made through the funeral home. Arrangements are being made through the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home of Arkansas City. Online condolences may be made at www.rindt-erdman.com.


Jeanette L. King

Jeanette L. King, 66, Lewellen, Nebraska, formerly of Arkansas City, died Saturday (March 8, 2008) at the Coffeyville Medical Center. The Rosary will be recited 7:00 p.m. Tuesday (March 11, 2008) at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. Interment will follow at the Memorial Lawn Cemetery.

Arrangements are being made through the Rindt-Erdmam Funeral Home of Arkansas City.
