Barbara L. Kelley
Barbara L. Kelley, 64, of Arkansas City, died March 8, 2008, at South Central Regional Medical Center.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home Chapel. Private family burial will be held later. Visitation will be 1-6 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Barbara was born April 15, 1943, in Freeport, Texas, to Carl W. and E. Arlene (Frazer) Paxton. She was raised and educated in Winfield. She was in food services, working first as a waitress. She then cooked at William Newton Hospital and Friendship Meals in both Winfield and Oxford.
She married Robert Kelley in 1973.
She was preceded in death by her parents and infant twins.
Survivors include her husband, Robert Kelley; a son, Doyle Wirtz, and wife, Kathy, of Arkansas City; a daughter, Kendra Allen, of Arkansas City; a sister, Betty Lacey, of Arkansas City; two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews; caregivers Kathleen and Jeff Widener; and her beloved pet dogs.
Memorials are to the American Diabetes Association and the Cowley County Humane Society.
Arrangements are under the direction of Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home of Winfield.
Raymond LeForest Jones
Raymond LeForest Jones, Wichita resident and formerly of Newkirk, died Friday, March 7, 2008, at his home. He was 90. Funeral services for Mr. Jones have been scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 12, 2008, in the Miller-Stahl Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in the Newkirk Cemetery. The body will lie in state at the funeral home Tuesday until 9 p.m. and Wednesday until noon.
The son of Wilmont Guthrie and Laura Ada (Jay) Jones, Raymond was born August 27, 1917, at Newkirk. He grew up and received his education in the Newkirk schools. After finishing school, Raymond farmed in the Newkirk area.
On Dec. 18, 1938, he and Mildred Essie Gorman were married in Wellington. They established their first home on the farm. In 1952 they moved back to Newkirk. Raymond was employed with Smith-Moon Steel at Strother Field. The couple moved to Arkansas City in the fall of 1964. Raymond retired as shop superintendent from his steel construction in 1979. In 2006 the couple moved to Wichita to live closer to their daughter, and have resided there since that time.
Raymond had been an active member of the First Christian Church of Newkirk for many years and had served as a deacon.
He is survived by Mildred, his wife of over 70 years; a daughter and son-in-law, Adrial and Bill Barger of Wichita; one brother, Ted Jones, of Arkansas City; two granddaughters and sons-in-law, Teresa and Kenneth Nottingham, of Rose Hill, Kan., and Susan and Scott Willis, of Wichita; and four great-grandchildren, Jordan Nottingham, of Wichita and her fiance, Brian Bayes, of Derby, Candace Nottingham and Kirsten Nottingham, both of Rose Hill, and Brianna Willis, of Wichita. He is also survived by two care givers, Gail Peterson and Kim Wyans.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Lynn Diane Jones, his parents, and four siblings.
Miller-Stahl Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
