Tommy Dewayne Tannehill

Tommy Dewayne Tannehill, 61, of Silverdale, formerly of Arkansas City, died Wednesday, May 7, 2008, at his companion/caregiver's residence. Graveside services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 10, 2008, in the Parker Cemetery. Tommy was born Sept. 2, 1946, in Poteau, Okla., to Jay P. and Letha (Goodnight) Tannehill. He was reared and educated in Liberal and Arkansas City, graduating from Arkansas City in 1964. He later attended Arkansas City Junior College (Cowley College). Tommy served in the Army National Guard and later in the Army at Fort Ord and in Germany. He worked as a roofer in the Arkansas City area for many years. Tommy was a longtime member of Spencer-Ralston Post 1254 VFW and the Shelton Beaty Post 18 American Legion. Survivors include his companion and caregiver, Debra Falkenberg, of the home; a son, Tracey and his wife, Crystal Johns, of Silverdale; five brothers, Don Tannehill, of Kennewick, Wash., Ron Tannehill, of San Jose, Calif., J.T. Tannehill, of Arkansas City, Melvin and Kelvin Tannehill, of Blackwell; five sisters, Sherrie Schroder, of Port Angeles, Wash., Diana Leach, Janice Nichols and Donna Tipton, all of Arkansas City, and Brenda Case, of Newkirk; and five grandchildren, Garrett, Aaron, Dakota, Amber, and Trenton. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and a son, Michael Merchant.

A memorial has been established with the American Cancer Society. Contributions may be made through the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home, Arkansas City. Online condolences may be made at www.rindt-erdman.com. ADV.


Ernest N. Parish

Ernest N. Parish, 90, Cambridge, died Tuesday, May 6, 2008, at Via Christi St. Francis Hospital in Wichita. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, May 12, 2008, at the First Baptist Church in Burden. Interment will follow in the Burden Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2-6 p.m. The family will greet friends from 2-4 p.m. Born Aug. 27, 1917, in Imboden, Ark., he was the son of Samuel William and Minnie (Carey) Parish. He bought and operated the grocery store in Moline for a few years and later owned and operated Parish Chevrolet Dealership in Burden. He was a rancher. Survivors include his wife, Velma Marie (Crowley) Parish of the home; son, William Scott Parish, Chanute; daughters, Janet Steadman, Mulvane and Gwenda Lumbert, Winfield; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son-in-law, Jim Steadman.

A memorial has been established for the First Baptist Church of Burden. Contributions may be made through the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of MIles Funeral Service, Winfield.
