Kathy Jo Eastin

Kathy Jo Eastin, 57, Wichita resident and formerly of Newkirk, died early Sunday afternoon, May 11, 2008, at Via Christi Health System, St. Joseph Campus, Wichita. Graveside services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday, May 15, 2008, in the Newkirk Cemetery. The Rev. Robert Ferris, minister of the First Christian Church of Newkirk, will officiate. Friends may call at the funeral home until 9 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday until 1 p.m. The casket will not be opened at the cemetery. Born Dec. 9, 1950, in Big Springs, Texas, she was the daughter of Loran Lee and Mary E. (Noeller) Kelley. She owned and operated the Clip 'n' Curl Beauty Salon in Newkirk for several years. Kathy moved to Wichita in 1992 and was employed in several hospitals in the housekeeping department. Survivors include her husband, Jerry Richard "Huey" Eastin; one son, Curtis R. Eastin, of Wichita; two brothers, David E. Kelley, of Shawano, Wis., and Michael E. Kelley, of Valley Center, Kan.; a half brother, Robert A. Hoibery, of Vancouver, Wash.; one sister, Lora Lee Bramblett, of Haysville; her mother-in-law, Dortha Eastin, of Newkirk; and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father, Loran Kelley; her mother and stepfather, Mary and Harold Kirch; and her daughter-in-law, Barbie Dawn Eastin.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the American Diabetes Association through Eastman National Bank, Box 468, Newkirk 74647-0468. Arrangements are under the direction of Miller-Stahl Funeral Service, Newkirk.


Henry M. Wolfram

Henry M. Wolfram, 88, Arkansas City, died Sunday, May 11, 2008, at the Presbyterian Manor.

Arrangements are pending and under the direction of Paul's Funeral Home, Oberlin, Kan.


Baby Boy Carson

Baby Boy Carson, stillborn child of Jeremy and Amy (Kronmiller) Carson, died Tuesday, April 29, 2008, at the South Central Kansas Regional Medical Center of Arkansas City. Graveside services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, May 16, 2008, in the Riverview Cemetery. Survivors include his parents; a brother, Jerrell; a sister, Dacia, all of the home; grandparents, Tammy and Mike Kronmiller, of Arkansas City, Thom Moore, of Wichita; great-grandparents, Albert and Bonnie Brown, of Arkansas City. He was preceded in death by grandmother, Geneva Jean Carson.

Raymond McKinnis

Raymond McKinnis, 78, Winfield, died Monday, May 12, 2008, at William Newton Hospital in Winfield. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 16, 2008, at Miles Funeral Service. Military committal honors will follow in Highland Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5-9 p.m. Thursday. Born March 6, 1930, in Meade, Kan., he was the son of Robert and Ida P. (Takenhorst) McKinnis. He worked for Cessna Aircraft in maintenance until 1987, hauled water for Butler Brothers Trucking and was a security guard at Southwestern College. Survivors include his son, Raymond McKinnis Jr., Winfield; daughters, Kim Allen and Robin Zimmerman, both of Winfield; sister, Mary Louise Lackey, Jay, Okla.; five grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Jean (Evans) McKinnis; his parents; brothers, Calvin and Donnie McKinnis; and his sister, Doris Frier.

William (Bill) Dean Drennan

William (Bill) Dean Drennan, 71, Winfield, died Sunday May 11, 2008, at William Newton Hospital in Winfield. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 15, 2008, at the Grace United Methodist Church in Winfield. Private family interment will be in Highland Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5-9 p.m. Wednesday. The family will greet friends from 7-9 p.m. Born Dec. 14, 1936, in Winfield, he was the son of Dean and Virginia (Kenreich) Drennan. Bill joined his father in business at D&D Farm equipment. He built his career around the expansion of the John Deere agriculture business and supported local farmers with the continuance of D&D products and services. Survivors include his wife, Nancy of the home; daughters, Shelley Bailey and Shari Wampler, both of Winfield and Stephanie Hoberecht, Dodge City; brothers, Jerry Drennan and Robert Drennan, both of Winfield; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Leland Easley Loughridge

Leland Easley Loughridge, 96, Arkansas City, died Wednesday, May 7, 2008, in Arkansas City. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, May 12, 2008, at Carroll-Lehr Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Jason Gunnels officiating. Interment was in Oaklawn Memorial Park. Leland was born Sept. 24, 1911, in Canton, to the late Samuel Henry and Nettie Ann Bateman Easley. Leland attended Mary Hardin Baylor College in Belton. After graduation she returned to Athens to marry her high school sweetheart, Tarlton Loughridge, and to begin her teaching career as a journalism teacher at Athens High School. As a public school teacher for 41 years, Leland positively affected the lives of hundreds of students, principally fifth-graders at Athens Grammar School during the '40s, '50s, '60s and '70s. While raising a family and teaching, she attended summer school classes and commuted on Saturdays to East Texas State Teachers College, Commerce, to obtain her masters degree. Leland was a member of First Baptist Church, Athens, Texas, for more than 80 years and served that congregation as a circle leader and Sunday school teacher for many of those years. She also served in various capacities with the Order of the Eastern Star including the position of Worthy Matron and leader and Mother Advisor of a Rainbow Girl group of contemporaries of her daughter Linda, accompanying them to state conventions. In retirement she traveled and enjoyed her grandchildren. Survivors include daughter, Linda Pepper and husband Roy, Arkansas City; son, Michael Loughridge and wife, Sally, Boulder, Colo.; grandchildren, Mark Holloway and wife, Tracy, Carthage, Mo., Matthew Holloway, Athens, Texas, Phillip Wade Holloway and wife, Alina, Austin, Texas, Susan Maizner and husband Daniel, Scottsdale, Ariz., John T. Loughridge, Las Vegas, Nev., James R. Loughridge, Boulder, Colo., great-granddaughter, Luciene; niece, Carole Henning and husband, David, Charlotte, N.C.; nephews, Jim Heath and wife, Frieda, Longview, Texas, David Loughridge and wife Beverly, Plano, Texas, Richard Loughridge and wife, Norma, Ft. Worth.

Clarence "Slim" Bannon

Clarence "Slim" Bannon, 94, longtime Ft. Morgan, Colo. resident, died Thursday, May 8, 2008, at the East Morgan County Hospital in Brush, Colo. Graveside funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 15, 2008, in the Douglass Cemetery in Douglass. Born Nov. 5, 1913, in Douglass, he was the son of Wesley and Mae (Chance) Bannon. He was a farmer and rancher. Survivors include his friends, Wendell and Margaret Wacker, Wayne, Heather and Rachel Wacker and Wendy Jr., Tracy and Samantha Wacker, all of Ft. Morgan; two grandsons; one great-granddaugter; four nephews; and one niece. He was preceded in death by one brother, George Bannon; two sisters, Oakley Cox and Emma Mahland; daughter, Mairlyn Metheney; and his wife, Lucy Bannon.

Bonnie Jean Berg

Funeral services for Bonnie Jean Berg, 81, Arkansas City, who died Thursday, May 1, 2008, were conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 3, 2008, at the Redeemer Lutheran Church. The Rev. Mark Boxman officiated. Interment was in the Parker Cemetery. Organist was Amy Haist. Soloist was Kevin Stevens. Casket bearers were Ken Culbertson, Delbert Oestmann, Sid Regnier, Bill Fountain, David Pond and Jimmie Holloway. Honorary casket bearers were her grandchildren.

Isabel Brilynn Brown

Funeral services for Isabel Brilynn Brown, who died Sunday, May 4, 2008, were conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, May 9, 2008, at the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home. Pastor Jackie Vogele, New Hope Assembly, officiated. Interment was in the Springside Cemetery.

Shirley Earlene Bright

Funeral services for Shirley Earlene Bright, 70, Arkansas City, who died Wednesday, April 23, 2008, were conducted at 10 a.m. Monday, April 28, 2008, at the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home. Pastor Gale Rider, Mount Zion Community Church officiated. Interment was in the Parker Cemetery. Casket bearers were Steve Williams, Shannon Bruce, Mervin Bruce, Chad Watson, Terry Sparks and Mike Bruce. Honorary casket bearers were Alan Bruce, Steve Bruce, Frank Venegas, Matt Brumback, Rocky Bruce, Dustin Bruce, Dwight Bruce and Cory Venegas.

Betty Sue Ledbetter

Funeral services for Betty Sue Ledbetter, 67, Parkerfield, who died Wednesday, April 30, 2008, were conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 6, 2008, at the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home. Pastor Robert L. Ferris, First Christian Church, Newkirk, officiated. Interment was in the Parker Cemetery. Special nurse's tribute was given by Carol Preedin and Jamie Metzinger. Special music was dedicated to the grandchildren. Casket bearers were Trevor Ledbetter, Ricky Reynolds, Shawn Wiley, Michael Ledbetter, Chris Leffler and Chase Rau. Honorary casket bearers were the grandchildren and the great-grandchildren.
