Richard L. Barnthouse

Richard L. Barnthouse, 79, of Arkansas City, died Thursday, August 9, 2007, at the Kansas Veteran's Home of Winfield. Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 11, 2007, at the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Memorial Lawn Cemetery. Richard was born July 19, 1928, in Winfield to Ralph C. and Edna (Mumaugh) Barnthouse. He was reared and educated in Winfield, graduating from Winfield High School in 1946. He served in the United States Army with the 43rd Armored Infantry, mostly in Germany. While in the army he played football and baseball alongside professionals to help entertain the troops overseas. He married Joanna Buzzi on Feb. 27, 1954, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The couple lived in or near Arkansas City all their married lives. He worked for the Consolidated Gas Company for eight years. He then worked as a salesman and later sales manager for Tubb's Motors for twenty years. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Winfield, the Shelton Beaty Post #18 American Legion, the Spencer-Ralston Post 1254 VFW, the American Quarter Horse Association and the American Painted Horse Association. Richard's greatest loves were his family, his horses and Arkansas City Sports. Survivors include his wife Joanna, of the home; four sons, Rick and his wife Sally, of Blackwell, Okla., Tom and his wife Lynnette, of Ardmore, Okla., Jim and his wife Malia, of Arkansas City, and Tim of Edmond, Okla.; three daughters, Kathy and her husband David Avery, Lea Ann and her husband Tim Orman, Tammy and her husband Rod Hoag, all of Arkansas City; one sister, Martha Wright, of Winfield; a brother, Harry and wife June Barnthouse; grandchildren, Sarah and Tessa Barnthouse, Michael and wife Emily, Erica and Mary Kate Barnthouse, Dustin and wife Brandy Derek and Devin Avery, Lachell and husband Tim Porter, Lacinda and husband Tanner Johnson, Lashaina Orman, Jeffrey and Tanya Hoag, Baleigh and Reed Barnthouse, Brayden Barnthouse; and great-grandchildren, Taylor, Trevor and Tagen. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Jim and Bill Barnthouse.

A memorial has been established with the Ark City High School Booster Club. Contributions may be made through the funeral home. ADV.


Lewis Elton Brown

Lewis Elton Brown, 91, of Arkansas City, formerly of Tulsa, died Thursday, Aug. 9, 2007, at the Presbyterian Manor Health Care Unit in Arkansas City. Memorial services are scheduled for a later date. Cremation has been effected. Lewis was born Nov. 3, 1915, to Charles Brown and Maggie (Corlett) Brown in Arkansas City. He attended Arkansas City High School from which he graduated and continued his education in Kansas City at a technical school. On Sept. 27, 1942, he married Grace P. Richardson in Ponca City, Okla., where the couple made their home. In 1953, they moved to Arkansas where Lewis built the first televison station in the state. They moved to Tulsa in 1958 and Lewis worked as the chief engineer at KTUL televison until retiring in 1984. He later married Leta Lang. He was a lifelong Ham Radio Operator. Lewis was a sweet man of amazing technical ability who was honest and loyal all of his life. He is survived by his wife, Leta Brown of the home; daughter, Georgia Johnson and her husband, William of Richardson, Texas; grandchildren, Amy Webster and her husband, Jason of Hidden Valley Lake, Calif., Drew Johnson and his wife, Julie of Orem, Utah; six great-grandchildren, Amanda, Gavin, Aubrey, Bradley, Ethan and Owen. Lewis was preceded in death by his parents; first wife; and brother, Carl Brown.

Fred E. Levick

Fred E. Levick, 84, of Arkansas City, died Thursday, Aug. 9, 2007, at the Presbyterian Manor Health Care Unit. Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 13, at the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Memorial Lawn Cemetery.

A memorial has been established with the South Central Kansas Regional Medical Center Auxiliary. A complete obituary will appear in Saturday's Traveler. Arrangements are with the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home, Arkansas City.


Patricia Ann Buesing

Patricia Ann Buesing, of Ponca City, Okla., died peacefully Thursday, Aug. 9, 2007, in Wichita, Kan., at the age of 55 years. Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 13, 2007, at the Roberts and Son Funeral Home in Blackwell, Okla. Burial will be at Blackwell Cemetery, Blackwell, Okla. She was born on Nov. 14, 1951, in Ponca City, the daughter of Harold and Mary F. (Ross) Buesing. She grew up on a farm east of Blackwell, Okla., attended Blackwell Public Schools, and graduated from Blackwell High School in 1970. She went on to further her education at nursing school at Northern Oklahoma College where she received her License Practical Nurse certificate in 1971. She then began working at St. Joseph's Hospital in Ponca City, and later as a private nurse in Ponca City. In 1980, she moved to Oklahoma City to work for the Baptist Medical Center and later transferred to Children's Memorial Hospital in the Neo-natal unit (She loved working with the babies). In 1999 she retired due to poor health. Patricia was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church in Blackwell, Okla., and loved making crafts and spending time with her family. Survivors include, mother, Mary Buesing, of Ponca City, Okla.; brothers, John Edward Buesing and wife, Rhonda, of Blackwell, Okla., Gerald Ray Buesing and wife, Terri, of Ponca City, Okla., Frederick Lewis Buesing, of Ponca City, Okla.; Six nieces, Beth Buesing, Kara Buesing and Lisa Buesing, all of Edmond, Okla., Laurie Crees and husband, Jeff, of Wichita, Kan., Tammi Sparks and husband, Richard, of Ponca City, Okla., and Angi Phillips, of Wichita, Kan.; five great-nieces; and one nephew. She was preceded in death by her father; and one brother, Charles Arthur Buesing. ADV.
