Sanjuana C. Juanita "Mary" Garcia

Sanjuana C. Juanita "Mary" Garcia, 86, of Arkansas City, died Saturday, Dec. 15, 2007, at the Presbyterian Manor Health Care Unit. The Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 20, 2007, at Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Father Charles Seiwert officiated. Interment followed in the Riverview Cemetery. Mary was born Feb. 2, 1921, in Perry, Okla., to Phillip and Guadelupe (Reyez) Terronez. She was reared and educated in Perry. She married Nicholas R. Garcia on Jan. 15, 1943, in Perry. The couple made their home in Arkansas City. Mary was a homemaker, but also worked as a cook for the El Taco and Eagle's Nest restaurants. Mary was a longtime member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Altar Society. She was a member of the American G.I. Forum auxiliary. Survivors include three daughters, Sandy Ford and her companion, Delbert Rains, of Bethany, Okla., Maria Archer, of Severn, Md., Barbara and her husband, Kent Booher, of Arkansas City; a son, Nick Garcia Jr. and his wife, Debbie, of Midwest City, Okla.; four brothers, Phillip Terronez, of Houston, Texas, Joseph Terronez of Arkansas City, Robert and Manuel Terronez, both of Perry; three sisters, Julia Contreras, Culver City, Calif., Virginia Tovar, of Perry, Okla., Romona Lopez, of Beavercreek, Ohio; her grandchildren she lovingly called by the nicknames she gave them, Christopher (Crisscross Applesauce) Grose, Jon (John Brown) Archer and his wife, Sarah, Jason (Silly Rabbit) Grose and his wife, Carrie, Lisa (Mona Lisa) Hadley and her husband, Cutter, Sharon (Sugar) Borror and her husband, Kelly, Tammy (Tam) Leishear and her husband, Jimmy, Kary (Billy Martin) Booher, Jennifer (Cricket) Booher, James (Bonzo) Garcia; great-grandchildren, Alexander and Stephanie Grose, Gehrig and Drake Borror, Joshua, Michael, and Maria Hadley, Jarrett, Elizabeth, and Jarrod Leishear, Lacy and Anthony Archer. She was preceded in death by her parents and five sisters, Patricia Padilla, Nora Trillo, Lupe Wills, Irene Francis and Mariqueta Terronez.

Billy Dean Treaster

Billy Dean Treaster, 72, Carney, Okla., died Saturday, Dec. 22, 2007, at Oklahoma Heart Hospital in Oklahoma City. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 28, 2007, at the Assembly of God Church in Carney, with Pastor Daryl Loudin officiating. Interment will follow in the Wellston Cemetery, Wellston, Okla. After numerous construction and oilfield jobs he went to work for Genereal Electric in Cowley County, Kan., as a welder. He was a lifetime member of the IUE. He held offices as follows: president, vice president, recording secretary, chief steward, skilled trades chairman, shop steward and skilled trades chairman for District 11. He retired from GE in 1995 and moved to Carney, Okla., where he resided until his death.

Arrangements are under the direction of Brown's Funeral Parlor in Wellston, Okla.


Orvan E. Gilstrap

Orvan E. Gilstrap, 90, Winfield, died Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2007, at Cumbernauld Village in Winfield. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 28, 2007, at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment will follow in Highland Cemetery. Born Jan. 8, 1917, in Claflin, Kan., he was the son of Grover Cleveland and Mary (Derby) Gilstrap. He was a minister in Artesia N.M., Lyons, Kan., then served as minister at the First Christian Church in Winfield until retirement. Survivors include his son, Paul Gilstrap, Coweta, Okla.; daughters, Martha G. Verlander, Raytown, Mo., and Sherrie Randall, Shawnee, Okla.; sisters, Margaret Christiansen, Odessa, Texas, Esther Gray, Colorado Springs, Colo.; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary E. (Palmer) Gilstrap; brother, Marvin; and sister, Myrna Carver.

A memorial has been established for the Retired Minister's Fund for the Christian Church. Contributions may be made through the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Miles Funeral Service, Winfield. On-line condolences may be made at www.milesfuneralservice.com.
