Dreams for Ark City can come true

By SANDY NEWMAN
Arkansas City

Our great nation is not just made up of large cities, but of small communities. This is where the greatest number of real people, really live. We have experienced a decline in economic growth at a grassroots level. As this has happened, that comfortable, cozy, safe atmosphere has been replaced. People all over our country walk around feeling insecure, discouraged, and hopeless.

There's nothing so powerful as a people "whose time has come."

There's nothing so powerful as a community "whose time has come."

The season of people grinding away at jobs that are too small for their spirit is over. We have the potential to provide purpose beyond the boredom of every day living and inspire people to go beyond their present limits.

Because of the uniqueness of its heart, Arkansas City is about to close the gap between "theory" and "real and tangible solutions."

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.

Community transformation is about people in business, government, education, church, and media having real influence in the community. Their contribution is wisdom, character, core values, and spiritual awareness.

The secret of transformation is to meet people at their point of need, repair the damage, invest in their potential, and expect dramatic results.

Our nation has been shaken with a sense of worthlessness, insignificance, and fear. Personal and community achievements must be made at a grassroots level to secure America's foundation.

Our Assignment:

* Address the negative public relations image

* Bring the community up to it's full potential

* Fill positions of influence with people of passion

* Restore hope in the culture and the atmosphere

* Build a "prototype" city that will model and equip people for success in all realms of life

Our Position:

* Empower people and the community to fulfill destiny and then even go beyond the boundaries of potential

Our Goal:

* Schools/Training

- Business and Finance

- Entrepreneurs

* Services

- Relevant help and integration

- Identify core values

- Turn unfulfilled potential into reality through education, recognition, and relationship

The founders of Arkansas City were men who wanted to equip early settlers for their dream. Our 21st century mission is much the same. We must pioneer a new mind-set, facilitate communication, and create a future filled with possibilities.

Dreams do come true.

This is one of the entries in the Traveler's visionary writing contest.

Second Amendment
Does the Second Amendment guarantee an individual's right to own a gun, as the Supreme Court recently ruled?

Yes, that was the intent of the founding fathers.
No, the founders were only talking about militias.
It's still unclear.
