Wichita couple purchases home for $60,300. Group will use funds to create endowment through Legacy.

The Cowley County Humane Society closed the deal Monday on a donated house for sale at Barber Title.

The house is being sold to a Wichita resident for $60,300. It is located at 1015 W. Birch.

A sizable chunk of the proceeds, $25,000, will be used by the CCHS to create an account with Legacy, a Regional Community Foundation.

This will help the CCHS "build a foundation with future donors," according to board president Rachel Bell. The sale has good timing as well, according to Bell.

The CCHS will receive the funds before the end of the year, which will qualify the CCHS for grant money that can be added to the Legacy account.

The plans for the rest of the proceeds are official, but Bell said that some of the money will go to improving the existing shelter facility.

The 1960s home is about 1,800 square feet, with three bedrooms, a family room, dining room, butler's pantry and patio.

"It's a really nice house, (it) just needs a little TLC," said Bell.

The new owners, Alonso and Yara Garcia are looking forward to the house. They plan to try and make it as homey as possible between trips on the road for Alonso's construction job.

They decided on the house because of the space it offered and the pretty exterior. Yara also is fond of the large backyard. It's a big step for the two of them.

"This is the first house that we're gonna buy," said Alonso, adding that it's a good house to "start off with" and offers a good price.

Second Amendment
Does the Second Amendment guarantee an individual's right to own a gun, as the Supreme Court recently ruled?

Yes, that was the intent of the founding fathers.
No, the founders were only talking about militias.
It's still unclear.
