Rec Center kicking off New Year with activities

The Arkansas City Recreation Commission has a variety of activities scheduled to help kick off the New Year.

Upcoming programs include youth soccer sign-ups, adult volleyball, gymnastics, daddy/daughter dance and martial arts. In addition, the ACRC Fitness Center, Family Aquatic Center and Game Room are open year around for your fitness and enjoyment.

*Youth soccer sign-ups: Registration for spring youth soccer will be held Jan. 2-25 at the Rec Office for youth ages 4 through ninth grade. Soccer practices will begin in early March, with games scheduled for late March through April. Registration fee of $30 includes team drink.

*Adult volleyball: Team registration is underway for winter adult volleyball leagues. Women's and coed leagues will be offered. Team rosters can be picked up at the Rec Center and must be turned in by Jan. 23. Entry fee is $60. The league is scheduled to begin the week of Jan. 28.

*ACRC Gymnastics: Registration is currently underway for January gymnastic classes. Classes will be held Tuesday and Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings from Jan. 5-31 for youth ages 3 and older. Pre-register for classes at the Rec Center Office.

*Daddy / Daughter Dance: Dads, grandpas, uncles, daughters and nieces enjoy the "Starry Starry Night" with a night to remember. The dance will be held Feb. 16 at the Rec Center from 6:30-8:30 p.m. (enter at the new gym on B Street). "Starry Starry Night" will feature dancing, refreshments and pictures for $10 ($5 for each additional daughter). Tickets purchased after Feb. 13 will be $15.

*Martial Arts: ACRC offers instruction in Tae Kwan Do and Kung Fu, with classes held during weekday and Sunday evenings at the Rec Center. For program information, call the Rec Office at 441-4300.
