First baby of 2008 born in Ark City

Ashley and Joshua Nelson are the parents of the first baby of 2008 at the Arkansas City hospital.

The baby boy, Landon Nelson, was 8 pounds, 4.1 ounces and 19 1/2 inches long when born at 5:11 p.m. Saturday.

He was delivered by Dr. Aaron Watters, center, at South Central Kansas Regional Medical Center.

The family will receive several gifts from the Traveler's First Baby Contest.

Prizes include dinner for two at the Sirloin Stockade; two T-shirts and $40 in free gas from KACY; free oil change, car wash and vacuum from Zeller Motor Co.; a $25 gift card and free consultation from Farm Bureau Financial Services,; a $25 deposit to a Club Oz Account at Ark Valley Credit Union; a Hey Diddle, Diddle Clock from Graves Drug Store; $25 gift certificate from Goodwill; a baby blanket and teddy bear from Farm Bureau Financial Services; $25 gift certificate from Wal-Mart Super Center; $25 in Chamber Bucks from Arkansas City Chamber of Commerce and well-baby chiropractic care from Wood Chiropractic Clinic.
