Pursuit ends in injury

By JEANNE RICHARDSON
Courier Staff Writer

A police pursuit on 151st Road early Friday morning ended in an injury accident in Cowley County, according to sheriff's reports.

Scott Goodpaster, of Arma, was driving east on U.S. 54 in the westbound lane in Andover about 2 a.m.

After attempts to get the 41-year-old to stop, he sped up and kept driving. Police officers pursued Goodpaster onto Haverhill Road (Cowley 1), and the Cowley County Sheriff's Department was called to assist in the chase.

When sheriff's officers arrived, the vehicle had lost control, left the road and rolled over several times, landing in the east ditch.

Goodpaster was transported to William Newton Hospital. He remains at the hospital in unknown condition.

Officers found that the license tag and vehicle were stolen, and stolen items were found inside the vehicle.

The Andover Police Department will pursue various charges against Goodpaster.

A blood alcohol content test was requested, but Goodpaster refused.
