Lady Moundbuilders post upset of Sterling
WINFIELD -- The Southwestern Lady Moundbuilders had a balanced scoring effort and took advantage at the free-throw line Saturday in posting a 57-50 upset victory over the Sterling Lady Warriors in Kansas Coaches Athletic Conference basketball play in Stewart Field House.
The Builders (9-6, 4-2 KCAC) converted 19 of 27 free-throw attempts in handing Sterling (13-3, 5-1) its first loss in KCAC play.
Southwestern shot just 31 percent (16 of 51) from the floor but held the Warriors to just 29 percent (17 of 59). The Builders held a slim 27-26 lead at halftime.
Kara Beal and Amy Liable led the Builders with 10 points each. Andrea Smith, Jordan Jarnigan and Jordyn Cossman scored nine points apiece while Jasmine Jackson chipped in eight points and a game-high 14 rebounds.
Ashley Kraft led Sterling with 15 points.
