The Cowley County Commission elected new chairs Tuesday night at its annual reorganization meeting.
Commissioner Gary Wilson, of Arkansas City, was elected chairperson, and Carmelita Clarkson, of Winfield, will be serving as vice chairperson.
This is Wilson's second time to serve as commission chair. Clarkson, a former county clerk serving in her first term as a commissioner, said she has always tried to do her best for the people of Cowley County.
"I will continue to represent the citizens of this county as I have in the past," she said. "I feel very strongly about saving their tax dollars as best I can. I will listen to them and do what's best for the county."
Wilson, who replaces Dick Bonfy as chairman, credits his coworkers for the success and progress the board has seen.
"I've enjoyed working with Carmelita and Dick, and we've accomplished a lot in the last three years," said Wilson. "The county clean-up was really important, and we've had a real good response from people. The new jail is another project we're really proud of."
Wilson also said the Commission has quite an agenda considering all the projects that are in the works. He said a new wind farm energy plant and a corridor study for a new state line highway project are a couple of the major endeavors the board could face.
"The next year will be coordination and compilation of projects that need to be done," said Wilson.
Wilson has also filed for re-election to the Commission in the 2008 race.
