Argonia runs past Dexter
Top-seeded Argonia took advantage of 13 Dexter turnovers in the first quarter as they bolted out to a 17-4 lead on their way to dominating the Fighting Cardinals 61-17 in the championship semi-finals of the Dale Misak/SCBL tournament Friday night at W.S. Scott Auditorium.
Dexter was no match for the Raiders quickness on defense as Argonia tallied 11 steals in the first half on their way to a 34-11 lead at the half.
"We just came out and were shell-shocked," said Dexter head coach Dennis Bryant. "But I thought the boys played hard, it was just that nothing we tried worked tonight."
Leander Greene scored 13 of his game-high 22 points in the second half for Argonia. The Raiders held the Cardinals to two field goals in the third quarter as the lead ballooned to 50-15 heading into the final period.
Cody Minor led the Cardinals with six-points while Bradley Berkley pulled down seven rebounds to pace Dexter. Blake Brewster added 14-points for the Raiders who advance to the tournament finals tonight at 7:30.
"A lot of people said we didn't belong in this bracket." said Bryant. "We are out to prove that we do belong in these types of games and we will continue to work hard."
The Cardinals will face off in the consolation finals against West Elk at 4:30 p.m. today.
