Medicalodge merging facilities
From STAFF REPORTS
Medicalodge will merge its two facilities in Arkansas City into one by March 7, local officials said this morning.
Medicalodges Post Acute and Rehabilitation Center at 2575 Greenway will be closed and its long-term care operation will be moved to Medicalodges Arkansas City at 203 E. Osage.
This morning local officials were trying to find out what residents wish to do as they help them make arrangements for when the facility is closed.
There are 36 people at the facility that is closing.
"We will make sure no one is left out," Marketing Director Lorace Neal said. "This is our top priority."
A press release from the company pointed to changes in the long-term health care profession, as well as the population of Arkansas City, in making its decision.
"Many different service offerings are available in America's market place today which allow seniors to live in their homes longer, thus maintaining as much independence as possible for as long as possible," the release said.
They have stopped taking inquiries from new people at East. With more people at the East facility more staff will be needed, so current employees are being invited to apply.
The press release said the population is down and there is just not the need for three facilities in Arkansas City now." Medicalodge has two facilities in the area and Presbyterian Manor and Alterra also provide services.
The release also said the doors will close March 7.
Home and community based service and assisted living service offerings have increased dramatically in all parts of our country and have been instrumental in giving seniors more choices for care delivery. As a direct result of the many services and care delivery options available in Arkansas City, both Medicalodges facilities have seen a steady decline in occupancy over the past 10-15 years.
While the cost of providing quality healthcare, meals, activities, utilities, transportation and staff wages and benefits has continued to rise, occupancy has declined," said Marla Nispel, regional vice president with Medicalodges, Inc.
Families, residents and staff have been given notice of the consolidation, which will take place no later than March 7, 2008.
