Bowen promoted to defensive coordinator at KU
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
LAWRENCE (AP) -- Clint Bowen, who spent the past two years as co-defensive coordinator with Bill Young at Kansas, has been promoted to the job full time.
Young, a finalist last year for the award that goes to the top assistant coach in college football, helped lead the Jayhawks to a 12-1 record and a victory over Virginia Tech in the Orange Bowl.
Shortly afterward, he took the job as defensive coordinator at Miami.
Bowen, 35, will be one of the youngest coordinators in major college football.
''Clint has played a big role in the success of our defense,'' head coach Mark Mangino said. ''He has great rapport with the players and is an outstanding teacher of schemes and fundamentals. There is no doubt Clint will continue to develop our defense.''
Bowen was a defensive back at Kansas in 1992-93 and returned to the Jayhawks in 1998 as a graduate assistant.
