N. Iowa hands Shockers fifth-straight loss
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
WICHITA (AP) -- Eric Coleman scored 15 points and had eight rebounds to lead Northern Iowa past Wichita State 65-58 Wednesday night at Koch Arena.
Coleman was all smiles after finishing off a 4-0 career record in games at Wichita State. Adam Viet, who had not made more than two 3-pointers in a game this season, was 5-of-8 from behind the arc to also finish with 15 points for the Panthers.
Adam Koch and Jordan Eglseder each added 12 points for Northern Iowa (12-7, 4-4 Missouri Valley).
J.T. Durley scored a season-high 18 points for Wichita State (8-11, 1-7), which lost its fifth straight. But he was the only Shocker to score in a decisive 12-minute stretch late in the game.
Wichita State, which had only eight healthy scholarship players available after Mantas Griskenas limped to the locker room with six minutes remaining in the first half, trailed 33-31 at the break. Griskenas didn't return.
The Panthers broke the game open with a 12-0 run midway through the second half. After five-straight points from P.J. Couisnard gave Wichita State a 43-41 lead, Viet responded with a 3-pointer to start the run that put Northern Iowa up 53-43 with 7:51 left in the game.
A three-point play by Durley closed the gap to 53-48 with 5:57 to play, but that's as close as Wichita State would get.
Couisnard finished with 15 points for the Shockers.
