Kelley's stalking bill gets support
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
TOPEKA (AP) -- A statewide group is pushing for changes in the Kansas law against stalking.
The Kansas Coalition Against Sexual and Domestic Violence is supporting a bill sponsored by Rep. Kasha Kelley, an Arkansas City Republican.
The bill would rewrite the definition of stalking and include additional penalties if someone is convicted of stalking after being ordered by a court to keep away from another person.
The current definition of stalking says it is following or harassing someone maliciously and making a credible threat against that person.
The new definition would define stalking as a course of conduct that causes someone to fear for his or her safety.
Kelley initiated the legislation after the kidnapping and death of Jodi Sanderholm last year in Ark City.
