Jayhawks hire Rice coach for receivers

By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

LAWRENCE (AP) -- Rice assistant coach David Beaty was hired to coach wide receivers at the University of Kansas, Jayhawks' head coach Mark Mangino announced Friday.

Beaty coached wide receivers at Rice the last two years when the Owls changed from a running game to a passing game.

Last season, Rice was 15th in passing offense, averaging 293 yards a game.

''We are extremely excited to add David to our coaching staff,'' Mangino said. ''David is an excellent technician and is always focused on making his players better.''

Last year, five different Rice players had 30 or more receptions.

Beaty previously was head coach at MacArthur High School in Irving, Texas, from 2002-05 and was head coach at North Dallas High School in 2001..0

He is a 1994 graduate of Lindenwood College in St. Charles, Mo., where he played football and was a team captain in 1992 and 1993. He led the team in receptions for three straight seasons.

Beaty and his wife, Raynee, have two daughters.

Beaty replaces Tim Beck, who was hired by Nebraska earlier this month.

Second Amendment
Does the Second Amendment guarantee an individual's right to own a gun, as the Supreme Court recently ruled?

Yes, that was the intent of the founding fathers.
No, the founders were only talking about militias.
It's still unclear.
