Lady Tigers rally past Fort Scott

By RAMA PEROO
Cowley College

Bouncing back from its first two conference defeats of the season, the Cowley College women's basketball team capped its four-game road trip the way they started it as they won at Fort Scott 65-55 on Saturday.

Cowley struggled offensively in the first half as they trailed 25-18 at halftime. However, the Lady Tigers scored 47 second half points as they outscored the Lady Greyhounds by 17 points in the game's final 20 minutes of play.

"We were really sluggish in that first half, so I am glad we were able to escape with a win," Cowley coach Todd Clark said.

Playing its fourth road game in seven days, Cowley finished the road trip with a record of 2-2. Elena Yankova led Cowley with 21 points, while Whitney Williams and Gabbie Curtis chipped in with 15 and 13 points, respectively. "Bebe" Holloway continued her solid play as she finished with eight points and 13 rebounds.

Cowley is now 11-9 overall and 6-2 in the Jayhawk Conference Eastern Division, while Fort Scott falls to 10-7 overall and 3-5 in the conference. The Lady Tigers are currently tied for third place in the Jayhawk East.

The Lady Tigers will look to make it two wins in a row when they host struggling Neosho County Wednesday at 5 p.m. The Lady Panthers are 2-18 overall and 0-8 in the Jayhawk East.

"We can't let them come in and gain confidence,'" Clark said. "Hopefully, we can get up on them and make it challenging for them throughout."
