South Haven boys, girls defeat Cedar Vale

After scoring just four points in the first quarter of last Tuesday's home win over Dexter, South Haven coach Darren McDorman placed an emphasis on an increased intensity on the offensive end.
And of course, that included more scoring.
McDorman wanted his team to score at least 20 points in every quarter Friday night.
"We were close, scoring 18, 20 and 18 (points in the first, second and third quarters, respectively)," he said.
South Haven went scoreless in the fourth quarter, but it didn't matter as the Cardinals were already by 39 points and had the advantage of a running clock in the fourth because of the 30-point differential en route to an easy 56-26 win over Cedar Vale.
South Haven (9-3) led 18-6 after the first quarter and 38-10 at intermission.
Jake Parcher took advantage of his opportunity to start, scoring a game-high 22 points, including 4 of 6 on three-pointers. He scored 17 of his 22 points in a rather one-sided half for the Cardinals.
"He came out very aggressive and made a lot of things happen on the offensive end," McDorman said. "If we can get Jake Parcher to play that well off the bench we are going to be hard to beat."
Jake Davidson added 10 points and four steals. Derrick Spencer had six points and four rebounds.
Cedar Vale tied the game at 4-4 early, but South Haven used a pressure defense to lead the rest of the way. The Cardinals led by as many as 38 points in the game.
"We played extremely well on defense and our pressure really got to them," McDorman said.
With the game well in hand, McDorman pulled his starters just 1 1/2 minutes into the fourth quarter.
GIRLS
South Haven 36, Cedar Vale 34:
The South Haven girls walked into Friday night's game a wounded bunch. Tina Clausen and Jordan Richards were ill and Breanna Bryant missed the game with an ankle injury.
After trailing most of the game, including by nine points late in the third quarter, the Cardinals used their patented press defense in the fourth quarter to try to get back in the game.
Trisha Cook and Christa Curl recorded several key steals and layups in the fourth. Tiffany Cook had a three-pointer late in the fourth to pull South Haven within striking distance.
Cassie Dvorak got a key offensive rebound late and recorded a putback for the decisive basket.
"I was really proud of the girls who played," South Haven coach David Hughes said.
