Bar burglarized

At approximately 12:46 a.m. Feb. 14, Tona Schmidt, owner of The Red Zone Bar and Grill in Arkansas City, called the Ark City Police Department to report the theft of her keys.

Schmidt reported a male suspect had run out of her business and removed her keys that had been in the door.

She gave police officers a first name and a brief description of the suspect. From this information, officers went to the suspect's residence and gained consent to enter.

During the investigation, Erin Swartz, 19, Destry Swartz, 18, and a juvenile, all of Arkansas City, were found to be intoxicated. Keys to The Red Zone were found inside the Swartz residence.

Leon Jackson, who was also present, was charged with theft/furnishings/hosting a minor alcohol party.

Erin and Destry Swartz and the 15-year-old juvenile were charged with minor in consumption of alcohol.

Officers had reason to believe Jackson and the others were planning to return to the bar at a later time and burglarize it by gaining entry with the keys.

Officers intervened and arrested the subjects on applicable charges before further wrongdoing could occur.
