Wounded National Guard soldiers reunite with medics
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
WICHITA (AP) -- A year after they were wounded in combat in Iraq, some Kansas National Guard soldiers are reuniting with the Minnesota medics who treated their injuries.
The eight wounded soldiers from Battery B, 1st Battalion, 161st Field Artillery are meeting Friday with four medics at McConnell Air Force Base in Wichita. The Kansas soldiers were wounded in two attacks on Feb. 22 in Iraq, during which Sgt. 1st Class David Russell Berry was killed.
Maj. Gen. Tod Bunting, adjutant general of the Kansas National Guard, said the reunion was a chance for the medics of the 1st Battalion, 125th Field Artillery to follow up on the lives of those they treated. It also helps with the healing process of the wounded, Bunting said.
