Krisik off to strong start in sophomore season

As a freshman, Kali Krisik put together a stellar season at Notre Dame, finishing 16-5 in singles play.

The Arkansas City native has already surpassed that win total this season as a sophomore. Even more, Krisik leads the No. 15 Irish in wins -- not to mention a double-digit win streak to accompany that.

Krisik ran her winning streak to 11 matches over the weekend, defeating North Carolina's Meg Fanjoy 6-4, 6-3 at No. 6 singles on Sunday in Chapel Hill, N.C. Krisik improved to 21-3 on the season with the win.

Krisik's victory was the only point garnered by the Irish in their 6-1 loss to the fifth-ranked Tar Heels. She and teammate Kristen Rafael were shut out by North Carolina's tandem of Ana Jerman and Christian Tara, 8-0, at No. 2 doubles. Krisik and Rafael fell to 2-4 with the loss.

Notre Dame coach Jay Louderback, also Krisik's uncle, has changed doubles partners on her four times during the 2007-08 season. Brook Buck, Kelcy Tefft, Colleen Reilley and Cosmina Ciobanu have also teamed with Krisik. Overall, Krisik is 15-9 in doubles.

But most of Krisik's success has come in singles, where she has been ranked No. 89 in the ITA Division I poll nearly the entire indoor season.

Her winning streak was in jeopardy on Saturday, but she was able to pull out a hard-earned 7-5, 6-4 win over Wake Forest's Katarina Reveche.

Notre Dame is 7-6 for the indoor season. It returns to the court Saturday at Georgia Tech.
