Middle school wrestling wins Walnut Valley League title

The Arkansas City Middle School wrestling team capped off a stellar season last Saturday, edging Newton for the team title at the Walnut Valley League Tournament. Ark City finished with 310.5 points, while Newton racked accumulated 308 points.

Individually, the Bullpups had nine champions crowned.

Cody Neal pinned all three opponents to win the 120-pound title and finish the season undefeated at 13-0. Michael Helms, Cody Eastman (13-0), Colby Watters (11-0), Lucas Hockenbury (15-0), Joe DesCartes (10-0) and Joe Tracy (3-0) also finished the season as undefeated champions.

Kurt Burr defeated all four opponents to win the 100-pound title.

Ark City won the team title at both tournaments they competed at this season and finished 8-1 in duals.

Last Saturday was the final wrestling event held in the soon-to-be disbanded league. Ark City will change to the Pioneer League starting next season.
