Jordan Fields will long be revered for making the biggest play of the 2006-07 season for Arkansas City.

With the final seconds winding down in Ark City's Feb. 27, Class 5A sub-state quarterfinal, Fields penetrated the lane, spun around two defenders before connecting on a layup with three seconds remaining -- all while being fouled. Fields made the free throw and Ark City survived a desperation three-pointer by Valley Center's Alec Toews for a 63-62 win -- its first playoff win since 2002.

"When looking at the rest of the league, I thought Jordan was the most athletic kid," Ark City coach Ben Proctor said.

Fields, along with Tayler Rock and Ryan Rohrs, earned AVCTL Division II honors earlier this week. Fields, who averaged a team-high 11.6 points, was named to the first team. Rock was a second team selection, while Rohrs was an honorable mention.

Rock provided the Bulldogs with a strong presence down low. The six-foot-4 sophomore averaged 9.6 points and a team-high 8.2 rebounds.

"I thought that he got better as the year went along," Proctor said. "He's got a lot of natural ability around the basket. I see him as a guy, that if he wants to work at it, he can become a really good player."

Rohrs made a living behind the three-point line, connecting on nearly half of Ark City's makes behind the arc (98). The five-foot-10 senior averaged 7.7 points and made 46 three-pointers, including six in a Feb. 19 home loss to Newton.

"Ryan started playing well in mid-to-late January," Proctor said. "He became very, very important for us. He was probably getting more minutes than anybody late in the season."

*Stinson, Benton earn AVCTL Division II honors:

In a season in which the Arkansas City girls basketball team struggled to a 4-17 record and averaged only 36.3 points, senior Natalie Stinson emerged as the Bulldogs' go-to player.

Stinson, Ark City's lone returning starter from the 2006-07 season, averaged 15 points, including a 30-point outing on Feb. 20 against Newton.

For her efforts, she was named an AVCTL Division II first team selection. Natalie Benton was named an honorable mention.

Benton provided a presence down low. The six-foot senior averaged 8.6 points and six rebounds per game.
