Nearly an inch of rain

Thunderstorms moved into the area early this morning with the rain gauge at the City Building in Ark City reading an accumulation of .84 inches by 10 AM.

Bob Frazee, emergency management coordinator for Ark City, said that it is likely the precipitation will stay with us with us today and into tomorrow, with the possibility of another round of storms moving into the area this evening.

The storms are not likely to be severe. Other than a report of dime sized hail in the northwest part of Cowley County, near Geuda Springs, the thunderstorms that came through this morning produced no severe weather, just soaking rain.

Frazee said that if you waited until St. Patrick's Day to plant potatoes you made a mistake. Yesterday was the ideal day for planting. It is likely to be wet and muddy for the next day or so.
