The Winfield Country Roundup (WCR) is gearing up for the kickoff party of the summer.
This year's country music festival runs May 28-31 at the Winfield Fairgrounds.
In anticipation of the festival, the Roundup Road trip is on a 10-week promotional tour with hometown parties around Kansas and Oklahoma. The 16-city tour started in March and will end in May. At each hometown party, an exciting, vibrant young man brings the Tome' Show. Tome' plays games with partygoers and gives away prizes. The tour bus is also loaded with free Roundup gear and chances to win tickets to all four days of the Winfield Country Roundup. The tour bus was at O'Kelley's in Winfield on March 15.
"It was wonderful," said C.J. Cross, Roundup organizer. "We had a great time, and it was a big success. Doing promos and meeting the sponsors is always fun."
On March 28-29, the tour bus will be heading to Caney and Pittsburg.
"We've actually had several towns call us and ask to be added to our schedule," said Cross. "Cedar Vale and Enid both contacted us. That was exciting."
Other scheduled locations are: April 3, Woody's Bar & Grill, Pratt; April 4, The Longhorn, Dodge City; April 5, Garden City; April 11, The Electric Cowboy, Topeka; April 12, Lawrence; April 23, Scooters, Enid; April 23, Stillwater; April 25 McGraw's, Hutchinson; April 26, KFDI LAS, Wichita; April 26, Spring Fling Rodeo, Cedar Vale; and May 3, Stateline Bar & Grill, Arkansas City.
On April 19 a special invitation media party will be held at O'Kelley's in Winfield from 7 to 9 p.m. After 9, the party will be opened to the public.
Last years's festival featured 37 bands playing almost 'round-the-clock. Already on the lineup this year are Alabama lead singer Randy Owen and four-time Female Vocalist of the Year Lorrie Morgan, plus Eric Church ("Sinner Like Me") and Pat Green ("Wave on Wave").
Also scheduled are American Idol's Bucky Covington, Jason Jones ("Walk on Me"), the group Jypsi and Lyke Bryan ("All My Friends Say").
According to WCR Web site, Michael Grant, director of operations at Rubbermaid Home Products, one of the sponsors of the Winfield Country Roundup, had this to say: "The WCR offers something for all ages, draws thousands of people into the community and is a positive event that we are proud to associate our brand name with.
"The WCR organizers continuously improve the event, and are committed to delivering high quality entertainment to the people that attend."
Tickets may be purchased when the Roundup Road trip tour bus comes to town or through all Select-a-Seat ticket outlets. Tickets to attend all four days of the festival are now just $85.
