Hills back in Geuda Springs
The City of Geuda Springs, will welcome home SPC Jason Hills and his wife, Priscilla, by hosting a cookout at 5:30 p.m. April 19 at the Boxcar Bar in Geuda Springs.
Bring your lawn chair and appetite and enjoy grilled hamburgers and all the fixin's while welcoming them home. Hills is the son of Jerry and Paula Hills, of Geuda Springs. Priscilla is the daughter of Mike and Shannon Wendt, also of Geuda Springs. Both are graduates of Oxford High School. They have made their home in Fort Campbell, Ky., while Hills was stationed there since March 2004. During the four years Hills served in the U.S. Army as an Emergency Medical Technician Basic, one year was spent in Iraq. He was instrumental in preparing his brigade for deployment with immunizations and was assistant instructor of the Combat Lifesaver program ensuring personnel were certified as Combat Lifesavers. While in active duty, he was also a member of the treatment team and ambulance crew for the Aviation Health Clinic, providing medical care for more than 3500 soldiers assigned to the west side of LSA Anaconda, Iraq. Using his civilian carpentry skills, Hills helped renovate the roof and build decks on the clinic after hours to alleviate the constant dust problem and insure constant electric power to the clinic.
He was awarded several medals during his tour of duty including the Army Commendation Medal, Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Driver and Mechanic Badge with Driver-Wheeled Vehicle Clasp and a citation for Meritorious Service while serving as a member of the Multi-National Corps Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom 05-07.
Hills was honorably discharged in March of 2008. He is beginning the remodeling of a modular home to accommodate Priscilla who has been paralyzed and confined to a wheelchair since an automobile accident in high school.
Instead of charging for the meal at the cookout, attendees are asked to make a donation to help with the the expense of the remodeling. Anyone who would like to donate and can't be present may send contributions to The Jason Hills Fund, in care of The City of Geuda Springs, P.O. Box 6, Geuda Springs, KS 67051.
