The Ark City American Legion recently received a $1,000 beneficiary distribution from the Joseph L. Derr Irrevocable Trust.

Derr was born in Newkirk and graduated from Arkansas City High School in 1951.

He served in the United States Army during the Korean conflict and was a member of the Augusta and Wichita American Legions throughout his lifetime.

In recognition of his military service and that of other soldiers, Derr bequeathed this legacy to the American Legion.
