The next rainfall for the Arkansas City area may occur on Saturday, after the local area has been soaked with almost three inches of precipitation over the past three days, a local official said today.
"We didn't have any flood issues other than our normal," said Bob Frazee, the city's emergency management coordinator.
Frazee said pumps in place for the canal and underpasses worked well to keep low-lying areas of the city from flooding.
On Wednesday, Ark City received 1.77 inches of rain, Frazee said, following the previous two days' readings of about a half-inch each.
"We have a chance of rain again Saturday afternoon, but the other days will be nice," Frazee said of this weekend's forecast.
There's about a 40-percent chance of rain in Cowley County after 1 p.m. on Saturday, according to the National Weather Service. The rain may continue into Saturday night.
"There's a slight risk of severe weather," Frazee said. "If we see anything, it will mainly be large hail and damaging winds.
