A long season for the Bulldogs' baseball team came to a close on Tuesday evening when they lost their regional game 3-2 to Liberal High.
Ark City (2-19) faced the number two-seeded Liberal team who had a record of 12-8 on the year.
Sophomore Justin Weaver started off the game for the Bulldogs with a single, but after a strikeout and two ground outs, the inning ended and left Weaver stranded on second base.
In the bottom half of the inning, Liberal scored a run with Ark City committing two errors.
Liberal went on to score single runs in the second and third innings, putting them up 3-0 until the sixth.
The Bulldogs made a valiant effort to come back as senior Curtis Ebert singled in the sixth inning with two outs. The next hitter, fellow senior Brigg Swope doubled to bring Ebert in to score.
The Bulldogs now had a shot, down two with an inning to play.
Ark City held Liberal scoreless in the bottom of the sixth, then called on the bats in an attempt to keep the season alive.
Junior Jason Young lead off in the seventh with a single, while the next batter, sophomore Blake Burroughs reached base on an error. Jason Young later advanced to third on a wild throw and the Bulldogs looked as if the tides might have turned in their favor.
Bryce Pool struck out and freshman Brent Burroughs sac-flied out to right to bring the 'Dogs a run closer at 3-2.
With two outs and a runner on base, freshman Brandon Young flied out to short stop to end the game.
Although the Bulldogs competed in a hard-fought game, their effort wasn't quite enough. They scored their two runs on four hits and committed a total of three errors.
Liberal scored three runs on six hits and committed only one error.
