Community band plays Thursday

Calendar of Events

The Arkansas City Community Band's 137th season continues at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the Wilson Park Rotunda.

Director Chris VanGilder has announced that this week's concert features music from around the world.

Included on the concert will be "Encanto", which features Cuban dance rhythms; 'Brazilian Folk Dance Suite" and "Songs of Africa." Additional highlights of the concert include "Zaragoza" from Spain, "Liechtensteiner Polka" from Germany, and Italian Masters Suite, which includes selections from Vivaldi, Corelli and Scarlatti. "Three Ayres from Gloucester" and "Colwyn Bay" are pieces that represent folk songs from the British Isles. American music will be represented by "Blues Dues" which features several improvised soloist.

All Community Band concerts are free and open to the public. Some park benches are available, however, audience members may wish to bring their own lawn chairs.
