Embargo affects few crops in county
By ROY GRABER

A recent wheat embargo that has been placed on some fields in south-central Kansas will not affect operations at Valley Co-op, the organization's manager said this morning.
General manager Rick Kimbrel said the cooperative has already fielded several calls with people asking him if they would be taking grain. The answer is yes.
While Cowley County has been identified in the embargo, it is evidently only a few fields in the county that has been affected. The operators of the fields in question have not had their names released.
About 20 fields covering 1,545 acres in south-central Kansas are under embargo in Butler, Cowley, Harper, Kingman, Reno, Sedgwick and Sumner counties, the Kansas Department of Agriculture told the Associated Press.
The embargo was placed because a handful of farmers were improperly sprayed with the fungicide Quilt, which requires a 45-day waiting period between application and harvest, according to the KDA.
"The people that we've had spray did it well within the time frame, so there should be no difficulty," Kimbrel said.
