Hard rain this morning, little damage reported

By CHRIS ROBINETTE
Traveler Correspondent

Cowley County residents found themselves under more rain this morning, after a several-day dry spell.

The high winds and rain that came through this morning have not caused any significant problems with flooding, according the emergency management coordinator, Bob Frazee.

Due to the recent dry weather, the chance of flooding has decreased, said Frazee.

"The rivers are pretty much back down." The total amount of rainfall in Ark City ranged from an inch and a quarter to an inch and a half.

More rain is expected this afternoon and tonight, however.

The storm did cause scattered power outages throughout the county, including some areas in Ark City. Some houses and businesses on the west side of Summit Street lost power. Homes and businesses on the East Side of Summit Street, South of Radio Lane, stretching back to Kansas Avenue lost power as well. As of this writing, there are still 496 addresses in Cowley County without power, according to West Star Energy.

The fire department has not received any calls due to the weather, said Capt. Joel Day of the Arkansas City Fire Department.
