The Black Diamonds were in good form in yesterday's first game against Ponca City which they won 5-4. However, they lost their second game 11-7 after making a comeback.

With Drew Palmer on the mound in the first game, the first three Ponca hitters were put out by the Diamond defense and the Post 18 squad quickly went to work.

Palmer came to the plate and singled to center field and Seth O'Daniel hit into a fielder's choice that resulted in Palmer, the lead runner, being thrown out at second.

O'Daniel later stole second base and put himself in scoring position.

Justin Weaver then came to the plate and looped at hit over third base that landed just inside the left field line, scoring O'Daniel from second.

The Black Diamonds had a 1-0 lead entering the second inning.

Eric Ailey singled to right field to start things off in the second for the 'Cats but he was later thrown out at second base by fielder's choice.

Ponca's runner on first stole second, advanced to third and later scored on a passed ball.

With the Diamonds back at bat and the score tied at one with two outs, Brent Burroughs and Kyle Pullins walked putting runners on first and second for Brandon Young who hit an RBI single to left field giving the Black Diamonds the scoreboard advantage yet again.

There was no scoring in the third inning but Ponca got things rolling again in the fourth with another run to tie the score at two.

In the bottom of the inning Blake Burroughs walked on four straight balls to provide the Diamonds with their first base runner of the fourth inning.

Brent Burroughs then put down a bunt that rolled to the pitcher and resulted in him being tossed out at first.

However, he advanced his cousin to second.

Pullins then came to the plate and blasted a double to right field for an RBI and another lead for the Black Diamonds.

Ponca tied things back up in the top of the fifth but Ark City wasn't quite done.

Jason Young got things started for Post 18 in the bottom of the inning with a single up the middle.

Curtis Ebert singled to left and a batter later, both Young and Ebert advanced a base on a passed ball.

With runners on second and third, Blake Burroughs hit a sacrifice fly to center field putting the Diamonds up 4-3.

Another ball that got by Ponca's catcher resulted in another run for the Diamonds making the score 5-3.

Jerrod Coble entered the game to pitch for Ark City in the sixth inning and didn't give up a run.

With Palmer only giving up four runs, the Diamonds were able to claim the victory 5-4.

In the second game the Diamonds quickly found themselves down 9-2 but came back and made the score 9-7 in the bottom of the sixth.

Ponca City then went on to score two more runs in the seventh and put the Ark City squad to rest.

"The way our schedule is, there are games at the end of the season that we should win," head coach Aaron Bucher said. "Our games have been difficult lately but that's preparation for what we'll see at the end of the season."

The Diamonds will play host to Andover at 6 p.m. tomorrow and are set to host the Zone Tournament later on in the month.
