Dexter woman turns 101

Effie May Foster wanted a quiet day in Dexter as she celebrated her 101st birthday.

She was born in Bartlesville, Okla., to Phillip and Mary Torrey on Aug. 11, 1907. She graduated from Bartlesville High School in 1927 and later graduated from Pittsburg State College. Effie taught school for 45 years in Cedar Vale.

Effie is affiliated with the Baptist Church and is still very active in resident life at Dexter Care Center.

She attends exercises and answers many questions during trivia. She enjoys sing along and loves parties and programs put on at the residence. Effie also assists with the calling of bingo and still enjoys having her hair and nails done each week.

Effie celebrated her 100th birthday last year with a huge party and over 100 guests. This year she said she wants a quiet day. Her family is requesting a card shower for Effie to be sent to her at P.O. Box 98, Dexter, KS 67038.
